Know Your Dosh has been nominated for 'Best Mobile App - April 2026' ๐ŸŽ‰

We built Know Your Dosh because most money apps are designed for one person. Real family finances don't work that way.

Families in over 80 countries use Know Your Dosh to get their complete financial picture in one place. This nomination is a reflection of every one of them.

If you use Know Your Dosh, or you believe families deserve better financial tools, we'd love your vote:

It takes just 30 seconds and makes a real difference. Thank you! ๐Ÿ™

The moment a teenager gets their first payslip is one of the best financial teaching opportunities you'll ever have ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿซ

Most parents either stay quiet (not wanting to dampen the moment) or immediately tell them to save most of it (which kills the conversation instantly). But there's a better way and it starts before the money even arrives...

For Global Money Week, we've written a guide to navigating the first conversation well: what to ask, how to decode the payslip together, what to say about scams and credit, and why keeping the door open matters more than getting it right first time.

What actually works is meeting your kids where they are. A 5-year-old needs to see and touch coins. A 12-year-old can handle a real budget conversation. A 17-year-old needs to understand what a student loan actually means.

In support of Global Money Week and the ๐—ฆ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜ ๐— ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ธ๐˜€ theme, we've put together a practical age-by-age guide, from the three-jar system for under-10s, to the conversations that matter most before they leave home.

That's not a criticism, it's just how it's been passed down. Money was private, so you just didn't ask as a kid...

But this week is Global Money Week, an annual campaign by the OECD reaching over 100 million people worldwide. This year's theme is ๐—ฆ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜ ๐— ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ธ๐˜€.

The idea is simple: the more openly we talk about money at home, the better prepared young people will be for the financial decisions heading their way.

We've written about why the historical taboo runs so deep, and three practical ways to start changing it at home. No big dramatic family meetings required.

Something interesting happened at the Wall Street Journal last week.

They published three completely different articles about family finances. A Chicago paediatrician who didn't know where her investment accounts were. Adult children helping aging parents. Families holding quarterly meetings with actual agendas to discuss money.

By the third, we realised they were all saying the same thing.

We've gotten really good at dividing household responsibilities. You handle the bills, I'll handle the kids' accounts. You know the passwords, I'll know where the insurance documents are. It's efficient. It makes sense.

Until it doesn't.

Turns out 45% of couples don't actually have full visibility into their family finances. Not because anyone's hiding anything, just because we've split things up so neatly that nobody has the full picture anymore.

And now there's this massive wealth transfer happening, something like ยฃ100 trillion moving from boomers to their kids. Most parents know they should talk about it. Most parents aren't talking about it. Most kids expecting to inherit have no idea what's coming or what to do with it.

The families in these articles are trying to fix it with formal quarterly meetings and detailed planning documents. Which is great if that works for you. But there's probably a simpler way.

We went through all three WSJ articles and connected what they're really spotting. Not just wealthy family problems. The thing most households are dealing with right now is trying to manage money together when everything's still set up for managing it alone.

Worth a read if you've ever had that moment of realising you don't actually know where everything is ๐Ÿซฃ

The Wall Street Journal published 3 articles on family finances in one week. Here's the pattern they're spotting and why it matters for your household.

This Saturday is Valentineโ€™s Day. Lotโ€™s of flowers, chocolates and dinner reservations.

But why not try another gift and have that money conversation youโ€™ve been avoiding. Trusting each other with something as vulnerable as money is romance in its truest form.

This weekend, talk about your finances. Your future selves will thank you โค๏ธ
