Did You Know?
Did you know the site of The Windmill Inn on Stanley Street has been a beloved local pub since as far back as 1665? Originally known as "Ye Olde Windmill Inn," this historic landmark has witnessed centuries of Ormskirk life, deeply rooted in the area's brickmaking heritage. The very bricks of the pub likely came from the local "Brick Stiles" fields, where the hardworking brick makers of old lived and worked.
As a Grade II listed building (since 2020), The Windmill Inn holds immense historical and architectural significance for our community, echoing Ormskirk's rich story that stretches back to the 12th century and the establishment of Burscough Priory.
Now, this cherished piece of history has an exciting new chapter! We're proud to have redeveloped The Windmill Inn, transforming the historic pub building into beautiful new apartments, while also creating new dwellings on its former bowling green. This project beautifully blended heritage preservation with modern housing needs, and ensured this historically significant site continued to contribute to Ormskirk's evolving story.
