Re-Post & Update :
We were pleased to hear this week that our vending machines have now been built and are finding their way from Italy to Devon very soon. Fingers crossed we are hoping that our new veg shed will be up and running by the end of June/early July. We are looking forward to supplying you with our own Dexter beef and pork from Terawhiti Farm to compliment our lovely veg !
Re-Post From 3rd April :
As many of you will know our farm and family have been growing veg here since the early 1900's ... five generations.
During the 2020 Covid pandemic, we were approached by our own village to supply families with veg to avoid stepping foot into a supermarket. Everyone would place their order, and we dropped the produce at the village hall once a week for collection. This worked really well and the village were very grateful.
This soon expanded as word grew in the Kingsbridge community and we started to do a weekly veg box scheme from our farm, where orders were placed and boxes collected directly from us.
When we all came out of lockdown and life returned to normal, everyone still wanted our veg which was fantastic! But unfortunately we just didn't have the time to continue making up boxes. So that is when our honesty Veg Shed was born on Terawhiti Farm. It enabled us to supply you with our lovely veg, but it didn't require lots of man-hours on our part to do so.
The Veg Shed has grown in popularity and now we move to the next stage.
For anyone that visits the farm regularly, you will have noticed that we have moved our shipping containers in the yard and in their place we have built a new Veg Shed. This is safer for our customers as it is out of the way of our busy yard where vans and tractors come and go on a regular basis.
Following an on-going request from our regular customers, from approximately June, we will be supplying our own farm reared beef and pork from a frozen vending machine within the new veg shed. There will also be a refrigerated vending machine for our fresh produce and eggs.
Both machines will have card and cash terminals, and as always, the Veg Shed will be open 24/7 for your convenience when other shops are shut.
Having run the Veg Shed for a number of years now, we do realise what a service it provides the local community, it is always open, it is so convenient and there is a demand for it. It is not unusual for people to pop in on Christmas day or at ten o'clock at night. Living in the sticks like we all do, these little pop-up veg sheds are worth their weight in gold to everyone.
We will also have a community noticeboard within the shed where you are welcome to advertise local events and classes which need promoting! Just pop it on the board, no need to ask!
So we hope you will all continue to use our new and improved veg shed when it is fully up and running. The vending machines themselves aren't due to be installed until about June, so there is a slight wait for them.
In a world of immense insecurity, it is really important that we all have food security and that will only happen by supporting your local farmers and by supporting British farmers. Thank you 🙏
