AI can produce financial information in seconds, but speed does not guarantee accuracy.
An answer may sound clear and convincing while relying on incomplete information, outdated rules or assumptions that do not reflect your circumstances.

That matters when the question involves pensions, investments, tax or retirement planning, where a poor decision can have lasting consequences.

AI can be a useful starting point, but it should not be mistaken for personal financial advice.
We look at the opportunities and risks in our latest blog on the Priority Wealth Planning website.

Same Mars. Different era.

A Mars Bar from 1991 recently resurfaced during a house clearance, providing a simple visual reminder of how value can change over time.

The 1991 bar weighed 62.5g. Today’s standard Mars Bar weighs 40g — 22.5g less than it did 35 years ago.

It may be chocolate, but the principle behind it is relevant to our finances too.

Inflation gradually reduces the purchasing power of money. Cash savings may retain the same headline value, but over time, they may buy less if returns do not keep pace with inflation.

With UK inflation currently at 2.6%, considering the impact of inflation remains an important part of longer term financial planning.

An ISA is a medium to long term investment, which aims to increase the value of the money you invest for growth or income or both. The value of your investments and any income from them can fall as well as rise. You may not get back the amount you invested. Taxation Planning is not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Bitcoin is down approximately 46% in one year.

Warren Buffett once said:

“Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful.”

Following the trend and the fear of missing out can force bad decisions, especially when buying an overvalued stock.

This is a prime example of a high risk, single asset investment which can work against you, especially if bitcoin was bought 12 months ago.

As of 1 August 2026, Bitcoin is trading at around £46,700, approximately 46.6% lower than it was one year ago. During that period, its value has ranged from approximately £43,650 to more than £93,600.

It is a clear reminder of the significant volatility involved in speculative assets. A falling price does not automatically represent good value, and past growth does not guarantee that an investment will recover.

Buying a stock is one thing but knowing when to sell is another.

Fear and greed can both lead to costly decisions when they replace research, careful planning and a proper understanding of risk.

Yesterday, DCC Energy agreed to a £5.75 billion takeover by US private equity firms KKR and Energy Capital Partners, adding to the growing list of London-listed companies attracting international buyers.

It also highlights how global the UK’s leading stock market has become:

• According to the Office for National Statistics, 58.8% of UK quoted equities are owned by overseas investors.
• Around 75% of FTSE 100 revenues are generated outside the UK.

While the FTSE 100 is listed in London, many of its largest companies operate internationally, with customers, operations and revenues spanning the globe.

The appointment of a new Prime Minister marks a significant moment in UK politics and has naturally prompted renewed interest in the economy, taxation and public finances.

While there has been a change in leadership, there have been no immediate changes to personal tax or pension legislation.

We’ll continue to follow any confirmed announcements and share updates on developments relevant to financial planning as more information becomes available.

Every week brings new headlines that can make investors feel uncertain. From geopolitical events to market volatility, it’s easy to wonder whether action is needed.

The Bank of England’s latest Financial Stability Report notes that while global risks remain, the UK financial system continues to be resilient. It also highlights that market volatility is likely to continue, reminding us that periods of uncertainty are a normal part of investing.

For long-term investors, making decisions based on short-term headlines can often do more harm than good. A well-structured financial plan is designed to help you stay focused on your long-term goals, even when markets fluctuate.

Remaining disciplined and reviewing your plan when your circumstances change is often far more valuable than reacting to every news story.
