A Bank Holiday is a good reminder that not every return comes from working harder. Sometimes, the best interest is earned when we pause, reflect, reconnect, and give life a little room to breathe.

It is also a reminder that, every now and then, putting yourself first is not selfish. It is maintenance. After all, even the best investments need time to recover, reset, and grow.

And with the weekend weather looking rather promising, it seems even the sun has decided to make a rare UK appearance. Subject to change, of course!

Connect's Mental Health Week | Day 2: Move & Energise

A well-needed break from bouncing between emails, calls & underwriting cases? It was time to swap mortgage stress for a little topspin therapy.

Led by Wendy Price & Christopher Jebbitt, staff entered the Conference court for a Ping Pong tournament from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm. We also had a special guest player, event Together - loans, mortgages & finance, very own Dean Maloney.

Whether their ping pong skills are “Wimbledon finalist” or “missed the table completely”, everyone was welcome. The only thing we served today was laughter, good energy & questionable backhands.

Because sometimes the best way to protect your mental health… is to stop, smile and chase ping pong balls.

Then at 2.00 pm, slow the pace down with our “Lake Walk” alongside Wendy & Chris 🚶♂️
Fresh air, good conversation & a chance to step away from the screens for a little while. No KPIs, no call queues, no lender updates… just a walk, a laugh & maybe the occasional debate over who actually won at ping pong earlier.

Connect Kick-off Week

We are kicking off with a session designed to help us connect the dots between awareness, action and everyday wellbeing.

With support from and Sally Desborough - Mental Health Awareness, Mental Health First Aider Lead, this session will officially launch MIMHC Mental Health Awareness Week and focus on this year’s theme: Action. Jane Benjamin

We will explore what taking action for mental health looks like in practice, especially for those who are self-employed or working within smaller businesses, where support can sometimes feel harder to access.

The session will cover:

• An introduction to MIMHC and the support available
• The benefits of Mental Health First Aid
• How Mental Health First Aid starts with us
• Practical tools to recognise when someone may be struggling
• How to approach supportive conversations with confidence
• Real-life ways to support mental wellbeing in the workplace

This is a valuable opportunity to better understand how Mental Health First Aid can help create stronger conversations, build confidence and encourage positive action around mental health.

In addition, we will put wellbeing into action at Connect’s head office with a series of staff activities throughout the week. From games and quizzes to walks and wellbeing moments, it is all about taking time to pause, reconnect and support each other.

Because when we take action together, we create a stronger connection for everyone.

“You had me at hello” may work in the movies but in a mortgage network, the real test is what happens after hello.

Because joining a network is not speed dating. It is not a quick handshake, a glossy brochure and a wave from the doorway once the ink dries. At Connect, the dotted line is not where the honeymoon period ends. It is where the relationship properly begins.

That is where Kevin Thomson comes in.

As Corporate Director at Connect Network, Kevin sits at the centre of one of the most important parts of the business: growth with follow-through. Not growth that looks good on a spreadsheet, but real, steady, adviser-focused growth.

On one side is the “Join Our Network” recruitment team, headed by Tracy Robinson, helping prospective members understand whether Connect is the right home for their business. On the other side is the Relationship Manager team, led by Emma Roberts, who makes sure continue to feel seen, supported, and valued once they are part of the network.

In other words, Tracy helps open the front door. Emma makes sure the lights stay on, the kettle is warm and nobody feels like they have been shown to the guest room and forgotten.

Kevin’s role is to make sure both sides of that journey feel like one joined-up experience. No trap doors. No sudden change in tone once someone has signed on the dotted line.

Because brokers can spot empty promises from a mile away. They do not need a network that talks like a manifesto and behaves like a mystery box. They need one that says, “I get it,” and then proves it.

We are not politicians. We are . We understand the pressure of a case that does not fit neatly into a box. We understand the client who needs an answer yesterday. We understand the late nights, the lender quirks, the compliance detail and the pride that comes from getting a difficult case over the line. Don't start us off with withdrawing products...

That mindset also runs beyond business.

Kevin has also taken on the Run 50 Miles in January Challenge, raising money for Maggie’s Centres to support people affected by cancer. It is another reminder that leadership is not just about growing numbers. Sometimes it is about putting one foot in front of the other, mile after mile, for something bigger than yourself.

And perhaps that is the thread running through Kevin’s work at Connect. Growth is not a sprint. It is endurance, consistency and commitment.

With Kevin, the message is simple: you were important when you were thinking about joining us and you are just as important now that you are here.

No honeymoon expiry date. No vanishing act. No fine print romance. Just a network that understands brokers because it is built by people who have walked the same road.

Today, we celebrate 100 remarkable years of Sir David Attenborough.

A voice that did more than narrate nature. It helped us reconnect with it.

From the skies above to the oceans below, he has shown generations the wonder of the world we share. Every forest, every reef, every wing, every whisper of the wild has reminded us that nature is not somewhere far away. It is all around us. It is part of us.

Thank you, Sir David, for helping the world pause, look closer and care more deeply.
