The UK government has announced an unprecedented investment of nearly £1 billion to tackle and prevent homelessness across England.

Here's what you need to know👇

1️⃣ Councils will receive substantial funding to intervene early, preventing individuals and families from becoming homeless. This includes mediation services, assistance in finding new homes, and deposits for private rentals.

2️⃣ Investment in programs like Housing First will provide secure housing and specialist services for those with histories of repeat homelessness and multiple disadvantages, including substance abuse.

3️⃣ Tailored support for prison leavers and other vulnerable populations will help them reintegrate into society and avoid homelessness.

Making Christmas a little brighter...

This Christmas, Sheltered are proud to support the tenants and communities of YMCA North Tyneside and Positive Directions N.E. - CIC.

At YMCA North Tyneside, we funded gifts for every tenant, ensuring no one is without something special to open on Christmas morning.

We also served a festive meal for residents and the local community, sharing food and connection during this important time of year.

For Positive Directions NE, we provided a full Christmas food shop for every tenant, helping ensure they and their families are well cared for over the holidays.

It’s an honour to work with such impactful organisations, and we’re grateful to be part of their efforts to create meaningful support during this festive season.

🎄 Supporting Our Communities This Christmas

Yesterday, we had the privilege of joining YMCA North Tyneside for their Christmas event, and it was a truly rewarding day.

Here’s how we’ve been helping to make the season a little brighter:

❤️ Gifts for Every Tenant: Each YMCA tenant shared their wish list, and we made sure they’ll have a gift to open on Christmas morning.
❤️ A Festive Meal: We funded and served a Christmas dinner for residents and the local community, bringing everyone together for a shared celebration.

We have also spread festive cheer to our tenants at Positive Directions N.E. - CIC too:

Every PDNE tenant received a full Christmas food shop, ensuring they and their families have what they need to enjoy the festive period.

At Sheltered, no two days are the same, and last week was a perfect example of how we’re constantly working to strengthen partnerships and drive impact.

Our Head of Acquisitions, Richard Haines, started his day with a visit to one of our provider partners in the Northeast. These regular check-ins ensure our properties are handed over seamlessly, address any challenges, and reinforce the collaborative relationships that allow us to focus on property management while providers deliver the essential care tenants need.

While in the area, Richard also met with an overseas investor with buy-to-let experience in the Durham region. Facing the challenges of refurbishing a property remotely, they were intrigued by Sheltered’s supported housing model. After touring one of our recently completed projects, they were inspired by the potential to combine financial returns with meaningful social impact.

The day didn’t stop there; Richard spent hours on the road catching up with planning consultants, vendors, and another provider partner in the Northwest. The exciting news? A new council in the region has approved expanded services, opening doors to scale our impact even further.

What does security mean to you? We all place a great deal of importance in the safety and security of our nearest and dearest. Having a safe and secure place to call home is a basic human necessity and right.

We provide safe and secure homes as a matter of standard practice but that is not the only aspect of our activities which provides security.

It is also imperative that our investors have the assurance that their capital is secure. Not only do we provide asset backed security but our leases are also underwritten by third party registered providers thus giving an added tier of protection.

And that’s not all! Our whole ethos is centred around enabling our exceptional care provider partners and we provide upfront payments at the ex*****on of the lease in order that they have a sinking fund to access should there be any issues with the property over the term of the agreement. This gives them the security to take on the property safe in the knowledge that every eventuality is covered. We support them in order to ensure they have the means to concentrate on delivering the best level of care for their tenants.

Addiction can take everything – but with the right support, it’s possible to rebuild a life. This is the incredible journey of one of the tenants supported by Positive Directions N.E. - CIC

After years of addiction, relapse, and hardship, she reached out to Positive Directions in her most vulnerable moment. They offered her more than just a roof over her head – they provided a safe, clean, and fully furnished home where she could begin to heal. This stable environment gave her the foundation to get clean, reconnect with her daughter, and even begin helping others through Narcotics Anonymous.

Her story is a testament to the power of supported housing. A secure home can transform lives, offering safety, stability, and the chance to start again.
