I love wandering round the shops on Boxing Day to pick up some sale goodies with my Christmas money. Always have. The 'Next' Boxing Day sale used to be something bargain hunters' dreams were made of.

Yes, the high street is struggling in some places, but there is a compact - after Christmas you pick up some bargains and the stores to clear leftover stock ready for the next season. You then brag to your friends about the discounts you got.

This particular shop was a Christmas store. To be healthy it should have been clearing it's Christmas stock ready to bring in the next season of decor as we all feel our homes are just that little bit dull without fairy lights.
Two problems - Not only were the signs misleading... that shelf was without discounted product, it was too lazy to work out the discount and mark down the items that were actually discounted. I love maths, but come on, don't make me work for the sale.

Will it still be there next year? Didn't feel like it.

Two fantastic shops in the older part of Lewes. A bookstore and a children's play centre. And you can just see a chap going into his flat.
So what are they doing that is special that maybe others aren't???

Spotted this conversion today, a former bakery. Yes, I am not pro commercial to resi as a rule. This one, however, is perfect. Retaining the original external structural geometry. Not only is it excellently executed, it's amazing up close - no dodgy paint job! BUT it is in a residential row where a commercial doesn't add value these days. Great project 👍

Very low number of empty shops, alot of small brands and Londonesque shop colours. Mostly Dutch and French tourists.

I was really dreading this morning... we'd asked the furniture delivery guys to not assemble the tables for HurstWorks because the final stages of the renovation and fitout were so topsy-turvy that we needed to keep it in the boxes.

So today was the day I chose to assemble as now the boxes themselves were in the way.

I could swear, but I've told to keep FB content clean.

Apart from Steve S being on hand to help me turn over the tables when they were done. There was a moment of business joy...

The recycled table had the washers already put onto the bolts - joy.

Community is on my mind today. Grounding your business in the local community is one of my 7 pillars of high street success.
I had a lovely afternoon yesterday in my old neighbourhood in central London. Having tea & a natter with a long time developer, and former UK business woman of the year for her innovative developments back in the day.
We got onto the power of community for regeneration. What do you do when there isn't one? Gillian is looking to the arts to bridge the gap in her adopted project town Great Yarmouth. Creating an arts school and social centre.
It takes people to be 'arsed' to make the effort we concluded. If you can be 'arsed', drop me a line and join the we can be arsed to make the high street a better place 😀

Tenant inspection today in Peckham. We had a lovely couple move into one of my first ever investment purchases about 15 years ago. They were fresh out of Uni and even needed a guarantor. They've just moved on into their forever home with their children who were born here.
Gorgeous flat, but too small for a young family.

Becoming a better coach to support Better High Streets.
Being an EC certified coach means access to training and a method / case study database that is world class.
Our own property redevelopment projects in Worksop and Sussex have taken my time for now, along with the development of new, modern, Amazon proof businesses and HurstWorks that launch soon. But I'll be available for 1:1 and group coaching later in the summer to support other business owners make the best of their high street premises.
