FAQ: I've changed employers. What happens to my NHS pension?

Changing jobs doesn't always mean starting your pension from scratch.

If you've moved to another NHS employer, your pension will often continue as normal. If you've left the NHS, your pension usually remains safely in the scheme until you become eligible to claim it.

The important thing is not to assume your pension has automatically stopped, transferred or been lost.

It’s been another **very busy week in the world of pensions** — and particularly NHS Pensions!

A lot of my time this week has been spent working through the latest **NHS Pension statement issues and updates**. We know how important these statements are, but also how confusing (and sometimes frustrating!) they can be when figures, service or information don’t look quite right.

Behind the scenes, I’ve also been:

📝 **Finishing a new technical paper** — this will be published next week and looks in more detail at some of the issues and questions we’re seeing.

💻 **Updating MemberZone** — keeping our resources and information current as things develop.

📞 **Talking pensions with clients** — working through individual circumstances, figures, options and those all-important “what does this actually mean for me?” questions.

📊 **Preparing client reports** — turning lots of pension information and numbers into something people can actually understand and use.

📨 **Getting our newsletters ready** — they’re almost ready to land in your inboxes!

🔎 **Finding missing pension service** — helping people identify gaps in their records and service that may ultimately increase their pension benefits.

🔀 **Looking at McCloud choices** — working through how different options can change benefits and why the answer won’t necessarily be the same for everyone.

📈 **Exploring ways to maximise pension benefits** — understanding the rules, checking the numbers and making sure people know the options available to them.

If you've ever attended one of our webinars, watched a Listen with Laura video, or asked a question in our Facebook Group, chances are you've already met Laura.

Laura has worked in pensions since 1997 and founded Pengage in 2018 with one simple goal: to make pensions easier to understand.
