Things to consider if you’re planning to wear your hair down on your big day
Do you need extensions?
Many of these styles benefit from clip-in extensions. Even those with naturally thick hair often use them to add extra volume and length, especially for bringing sections forward over the shoulders.
How well does your hair hold a curl?
Extensions can help curls last longer, but your natural hair texture also plays a significant role. Hair that is very soft, silky, or naturally straight tends to drop curls more quickly, so extra prep or support may be needed.
Is your dress high-neck or heavily embellished?
Details such as lace, beading, or sequins can catch on your hair throughout the day. High necklines or detailed backs can also create friction, which may lead to tangling, frizz, or flattening at the ends. It’s an easy detail to overlook, but it can make a noticeable difference to how your style lasts.
Do you tend to get warm?
If you often feel hot, or you’re planning a summer wedding, wearing your hair down can start to feel heavy as the day goes on. Heat, dancing, and crowded spaces can lead to perspiration at the nape of the neck, which may reduce volume and cause frizz or loss of shape.
These are all things I discuss with my brides at their trial.
