Will it? Won't it? A train station for Marsh Barton, Exeter's been talked about for years. We're now told trains could be stopping at this new station between St. Thomas and Starcross by the end of next year.

But it could be running in 18 months

SPITFIRES will roar over South Devon on Thursday September 15 in an event to mark the 76th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

The Boultbee Flight Academy, who recently brought the City of Exeter Spitfire to Exeter Airport, will be hosting an event at the airfield on the day.

The Lord Mayor of Exeter will meet the academy's Spitfire pilots and officially name the single seat Spitfire RR232 'City of Exeter'. Pupils from Morchard Bishop Primary School will be there, as will the aircraft owner who rebuilt the Spitfire from a single rivet.

At 6pm both Spitfires will perform a formation flypast down the River Exe and towards the coast.

Bridge Road in Exeter will be closed this weekend to allow essential work to the Countess Wear Flood Relief structure to take place.

The structure, which is situated between the River Exe and the entrance to the South West Water treatment works, was built in the 1960s and is in need of major repair and refurbishment as part of the Bridge Road Widening Scheme.

All of the existing tarmac road layers will be removed from the top of the structure, and concrete repairs carried out. Following this, waterproofing will be reapplied before new tarmac is laid to replace the road surface.

Reconstruction work will also be carried out at the bus bay on the east side of Bridge Road, near the Countess Wear Roundabout.

The road will be closed to traffic from 10pm on Friday 9 September until 5am on Monday 12 September. Pedestrians and cyclists can continue to access the road during the closure via temporary paths, and should take care and follow the site signage and any instructions from site staff.

The works are weather-dependent, so could be cancelled at short notice and re-programmed for another time.

Dear Exeter Chamber of Commerce and the Marsh Barton Forum,

Your members may be aware that Devon County Council is starting a major construction project to widen Bridge Road. When complete the scheme will deliver 2 lanes in each direction plus improvements for pedestrians and cyclists.

However during the construction project, which runs until April 2017, the road will operate as 2 lanes only, 1 in each direction, and there are a limited number of overnight or weekend road closures.

News of the first closures is available on our NewsCentre here:
https://www.devonnewscentre.info/bridge-road-exeter-overnight-closures/

All future closures will be announced on our Bridge Road website (link below), there is an option to subscribe which means you will be alerted to future closures.

Thank you for your patience whilst we complete this project, I am happy to be contacted in the event of any queries about the works.

Kind regards
Toni

Chamber of Commerce issue warning to Marsh Barton members of 'scam'
Marsh Barton Forum have been made aware that a number of companies on the estate have been visited by a team of individuals purporting to be offering a 'Tool Sharpening' service.

It would appear that the service offered is bogus and, in one instance where an initial trial service offer was taken up, there was an unfortunate and very unpleasant incident that followed with the unauthorised removal of a quantity of tools, followed by a demand for payment for their return. The police have been involved in the incident.

All businesses on Marsh Barton are advised to be alert and, if they have any concerns or suspicions, to report them to the police
