Base Rate held at 3.75%

The Bank Rate will stay put at 3.75%, following the unanimous vote of the Monetary Policy Committee. Unsurprisingly, the conflict in the Middle East and the consequent increase in global energy and other commodity prices has been cited as the reasoning behind this decision.

The current inflation rate is 3% against a target of 2%. The Committee said they would continue to monitor closely the situation in the Middle East and its impact on global energy supply and will act to ensure inflation remains on track to meet the 2% target in the medium term.
