๐ข NO JOKES! New Stamp Duty Changes Are Now in Effect! ๐ก
As of today, April 1st, 2025, new Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) rules are live โ and they could impact buyers across the UK.
Hereโs whatโs changed:
๐น Standard Buyers:
Youโll now pay 2% SDLT on property purchases over ยฃ125,000 (down from the old ยฃ250K threshold).
๐น First-Time Buyers:
The tax-free threshold has dropped to ยฃ300,000, with 5% due between ยฃ300Kโยฃ500K.
(Previously, you could buy up to ยฃ425K without paying a penny.)
๐น Additional Properties:
The 3% surcharge will now be 5% for second homes and buy-to-lets.
๐ฐExample:
Buying at ยฃ295,000? Youโll now pay ยฃ4,750 in SDLT โ thatโs ยฃ2,500 more than before April 1st!
