SUMMER STORAGE ADVICE IN HOT WEATHER
The UK's just had its hottest June on record — and summer's not done yet.

Easy to make that the story. But heat isn't what shapes a British motorhome. Damp is — and the sun's quietly making it worse!

The problem the sunshine is hiding

Most vans on UK drives were built in drier parts of EuropE in particular Italy, then spend their lives somewhere far wetter. Britain sits at 70–90% humidity for much of the year, and that moisture is always looking for a way in to your van. (You can also suffer from moisture seeping into your walls from inside your van when you shower, cook and hang wet coats and clothes without having good ventilation!)

The way in is through the seals. Sustained sun dries and cracks the rubbers and seals around windows, rooflights, and doors — and the damage doesn't show now. It shows next winter, as damp in the walls, when the rain finds any gaps the summer opened up. And damp, not age or mileage, is the biggest single factor in what a used motorhome is worth. The materials are cheap; it's the labour — tracing a leak, stripping a wall back — that runs into hundreds of hours and sometimes thousands of £££.

What actually protects your motorhome

Three things, in order of effort:

Feed the rubber. Clean the seals with plain water (not washing-up liquid — it reacts with rubber and leaves it sticky), then wipe over a small amount of silicone seal conditioner or grease — Thetford's is stocked in most leisure vehicle shops and does the job well. Make it a twice a year job, spring and autumn. It keeps the rubber supple and lays down a UV barrier. Skip ordinary WD-40 — it reacts with the rubber and makes things worse!!

Reseal what's already gone. Feeding rubber won't fix rubber that's already cracked or lifting — that needs resealing before winter. A tube of l**e and an afternoon of maintenance now, rather than a wall stripped back later..

Keep the sun off it if you can. On a driveway, a breathable cover shades the seals and lets moisture out — a cheap non-breathable one traps damp against the bodywork and causes the exact problem you're avoiding. Better still, store it covered when it's not in use — the sun can't reach the seals and the rain can't get in.

Engineer Aftercare Motorhome, Camper & Caravan Warranty is often asked by customers, are their tyres included under a warranty? Also, are there specific tyres they should select for longevity and safety when touring sometimes long distances?
So here are the answers to those questions:

1: Are they included under a manufacturer, retailer or other general warranty? The answer usually is no unless you have a specific insurance for punctures from outlets like Kwikfit etc. Tyres and selective other parts and components are considered 'Serviceable items', which will include Batteries Exhaust, Brake pads and discs and Clutch plates etc. Because we all know these will wear depending on use and will need replacing periodically.
2: Are there specific tyres I should select for my Camper or Motorhome in particular?
The answer is yes! Because when it was built in the factory, it was meant to be a commercial van, with all the loading expectations or a vehicle often driving 50,000 miles a year. She here is some advice on selecting your next tyres.
What are the correct tyres to select for your Campervan & Motorhomes?
For camper van tire specs, “Type C” usually refers to commercial-rated Tyres designed for vans and light commercial vehicles. In Europe, these are often marked with a “C” after the tire size, such as 215/65 R16C. They have reinforced construction and higher load ratings suitable for camper vans and motorhomes.
