As a power transmission distributor, most of our products are shipped further afield. This Bockwoldt 2 stage gearbox is heading out to Cheshire to a hydraulic export company. As high performance, durable and efficient drives they would primarily be used in industrial manufacturing or plant/agricultural industries 💪

Veronica - Accountant and Engineering Sales 👩‍💻

Veronica joined Combidrive 10 years ago primarily to manage the accounts side of the business. As a power transmission distributor we import from several different manufacturers in Europe so this role includes handling import and export documentation, freight and custom fees, foreign exchange... and all the other head scratching problems Brexit gave us!😫. As the agricultural sales have grown, she has also taken on the role of engineering sales. At home Veronica is a dairy and beef farmer so not only does she already have a good understanding of the product lines, she has first hand experience of the job itself and all the stress it can throw at you!

Note: Veronica is also our resident ChatGPT expert, she's left the rest of us behind! 😉

Who's idea was this?!

Sarah - Engineering Sales.

I started with Combidrive in 2006 when the company was based in Llandeilo. A position became available in sales and it felt like the right time to...risk working with family!. I had no background in engineering but years of training and experience in sales. Fortunately I had a great mentor😉(he just had to check if I was still following every now and again👨‍🏫!). In 2007 the company moved from Llandeilo to Crosshands. From the Llandeilo premises the business was trading as a power transmission distributor only but the move to an expanding industrial estate in Crosshands lent itself far more to growing another side of the sales activity in the lawn and garden and an agricultural range of products. This was something I was particularly enthusiastic about expanding. Over the years we have steadily grown our customer base and increased our stock inline with our agricultural customers ever changing demands supplying many local business's and individuals in a variety of different industries including construction, automotive and food production. Whilst most days we have something "we've not seen before"!, our focus remains on continuing to deliver the level of reliability in sales and service that Combidrive has achieved a very long standing reputation for.

NEXT UP! 🥁

Edwin - Combidrive's founder and mechanical engineering wizard! 👨‍🔧

Established in 1975, Combidrive started life as a distributor for variable speed drives, geared motors, freewheels and centrifugal clutches and brakes. Edwin studied mechanical engineering in Coventry Technical college to take an apprenticeship with Rootes Group. He then went on to take on a service manager role within several garages throughout West Wales. It was during this time he learnt a valuable life lesson that telling your boss, his son is an idiot, gets you fired! 🤭. RAC's team of engineers was the next role, followed by a sales role within a company importing power transmission components from Germany. It was from this company he was asked to start a Uk daughter company and Combidrive was born! Last year we celebrated the 50th year anniversary 🎉 which we are incredibly proud of, none more so than Edwin, who although now prefers to spend his time on the water, continues to support us technically, as we do him with social media!.

When on dry land you may see him coasting around corners in the Combidrive "Mouse", in which the World Record for MPG still remains! Another huge achievement we are very proud to have been part of 👏

Michelle - Engineering Sales👩‍🔧

The youngest of the team (how could we forget! 😉), Michelle started with Combidrive in 2020 just before the first covid lock down after successfully running her own local business for many years whilst raising a family. Over the past 6 years she has handled sales in both the industrial and agricultural side of the business, understanding exactly the level of reliability in sales and service required for a small business to survive in a fast paced, ever changing competitive market.

Just to set the record straight: No, I am not Michelle's mother, although yes it is true I am old enough to be!

A word of caution: Michelle's banter will be quicker than yours so be prepared! 😂

Our partnership with the German manufacturer SUCO Robert Scheuffele GmbH & Co. KG was formed over 40 years ago. Combidrive Ltd is the sole UK agent for Suco's range of centrifugal clutches and brakes which are often found in the agricultural, construction and plant and machinery industries. Some of Combidrive's more unusual brake design applications include a rotating sculpture for Canary Wharf, a braking system for Wembley Stadium and a giant human hamster wheel!
