🌊 How FreeAgent keeps your numbers tidy all year

One of the biggest reasons clients feel calmer about their finances
is not leaving everything until January.

That’s exactly where FreeAgent helps 👇

âś… Bank transactions flow in automatically
So nothing gets forgotten or lost in a shoe‑box somewhere.

âś… Income & expenses are tracked as you go
You can see how your business is doing during the year — not months later.

âś… Tax estimates build up in the background
No big shocks, no nasty surprises. Just clearer expectations.

âś… VAT, Self Assessment & payroll all in one place
Everything connected, tidy, and easy to review when deadlines roll around.

âś… Less admin, more headspace
Which usually means more time for your actual business — and fewer sleepless nights.

đź’™ I use FreeAgent with many of my sole trader and small limited company clients because it keeps things organised, compliant, and calm.

If you’d like to know whether FreeAgent would suit your business,
📩 ask me about FreeAgent — I’m always happy to give an honest answer.

âť“ What happens if you miss the 31 January Self Assessment deadline?

First things first, take a breath.
Missing the deadline is stressful, but it’s not the end of the world.

Here’s what actually happens:
➡️ A £100 late filing penalty
This applies even if you don’t owe any tax, or if you’re just one day late.

➡️ If it’s over 3 months late
HMRC can add daily penalties (up to a limit), so it’s always best to submit as soon as you can.

➡️ Late payment → interest
If tax is owed and not paid by 31 January, HMRC will charge interest until it’s cleared.

➡️ The most important thing
The sooner you file, the better. Even a late return stops further penalties building up.

✨ Self Assessment deadline is almost here, but don’t panic.
If you’re still getting things together, here’s a final, simple checklist to keep you on track:
âś… All income for the tax year
• Sales / invoices
• Any side income
• Bank interest or dividends
âś… Your business expenses
• Mileage
• Use of home
• Phone, software, materials, subscriptions
âś… Your bookkeeping up to date
• Bank transactions matched
• No “mystery” payments left uncategorised
✅ Previous year’s return
• Helps check figures like losses or payments on account

Starting a business? 📊 Don’t forget these key accounting steps to set yourself up for success! 💼💡

Choose the right business structure - Decide if you’ll be a sole trader, limited company, partnership or limited liability partnership to understand your tax obligations and liabilities.

Set up a separate business account - Keep personal and business accounts separate to simplify tracking and taxes.

Track income and expenses - Use accounting software or spreadsheets to stay on top of cash flow and deductions.

Understand your tax obligations - Know your Income tax, corporation tax & payroll obligations early on.

Create a budget and forecast - Plan for business growth, expenses, and profits to ensure long-term success.

Consult a professional - Hire An accountant to guide you through the financial side of your business.
