💜 A little happy dance at Lavender Ledger today! 💜

Receiving reviews like this means so much, especially as a small business owner.

When people contact me, they’re often feeling overwhelmed, confused, or worried about getting something wrong. My goal is always to make finances feel less daunting and help people understand what needs to be done, one step at a time.

Thank you so much, Alicia, for taking the time to leave such kind words:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“I reached out to Davina very confused and stressed. She put me at ease instantly and talked me through what needed to be done. She was very quick and very efficient. I’ll be using Lavender Ledger yearly from now on!”

Knowing I’ve helped someone move from stressed and confused to feeling supported and confident is exactly why I started Lavender Ledger.

Thank you to everyone who trusts me with their bookkeeping, payroll, and self-assessment needs. Your support means the world. 💜

Last night I went to see Operation Mincemeat in London, and wow… what a show!

The cast were incredibly talented, the comedy was brilliant, and the energy on stage was amazing from start to finish.

One thing that really caught my attention wasn’t actually the performance though – it was the price of the refreshments. A regular bottle of Sprite cost £4.55.

A few years ago, I might have simply thought, “That’s expensive.”

Now, after spending so much time working with business owners and seeing the reality behind the numbers, I found myself thinking differently.

Businesses everywhere are facing rising costs. Rent, utilities, wages, insurance, software subscriptions, maintenance, stock… the list seems endless. Many businesses aren’t increasing prices because they want to make more profit; they’re increasing them because they need to cover the costs of keeping their doors open.

It’s easy to look at a price tag and make a judgement. It’s much harder to see everything happening behind the scenes to make that experience possible.

As a bookkeeper, I have the privilege of seeing the dedication, hard work and resilience that business owners put in every day. It gives me a real appreciation for the challenges they face and the balancing act of delivering a great service while keeping the business sustainable.

So alongside applauding the performers last night, I found myself quietly appreciating the people working behind the scenes to keep the theatre running too.

Running a business isn’t easy right now. That’s why I always love supporting those who are giving it their all.

Confession…

When I’m quiet on Facebook, it’s usually because I’m busy doing the things that help me serve my clients better.

This week has included client work, networking, training, and listening to a brilliant podcast discussing menopause and the impact it can have on women in business.

As a foster carer, mum, dog mum, wife, and business owner, I know that life doesn’t always fit neatly into a spreadsheet.

That’s why I love what I do.

Yes, I help with bookkeeping, but I also get to support real people who are juggling businesses, families, dreams and challenges.

The numbers matter.

But the people behind the numbers matter even more.

Have a wonderful day ☀️☀️☀️

💷 “I can’t afford a bookkeeper.”

It’s something I hear quite often from small business owners.

But what if your bookkeeper actually saved you money?

Recently, while reviewing a client’s records, I noticed some duplicated charges from a supplier. After a quick investigation and a conversation with the supplier, a credit note was issued.

The result?

✅ A happy client
✅ Money back in their business account
✅ More than covering my monthly bookkeeping fee

As bookkeepers, we’re often looking at your finances far more closely than you have time to.

That means we can spot things like:

🔍 Duplicate payments or invoices
🔍 Unused subscriptions still being charged
🔍 Unexpected increases in supplier costs
🔍 Missing expenses that could be claimed
🔍 Small errors before they become expensive problems

Good bookkeeping isn’t just about keeping HMRC happy.

It’s about understanding your numbers, protecting your cash flow, and helping your business keep more of the money it earns.

Bookkeeping shouldn’t feel like an expense you can’t afford.

It should feel like an investment that helps your business run more smoothly and, sometimes, saves you money too.

🌿 Hello to all my new followers! 🌿

With over 1,500 people now following my page, I thought it might be time to properly introduce myself.

I’m Davina, the face behind Lavender Ledger 💜

Most people know me as a bookkeeper, helping small business owners feel calmer and more confident about their finances, but there’s a lot more to me than spreadsheets and receipts.

🏡 I’m a mum, wife and foster carer.
Fostering has taught me patience, resilience, empathy and the importance of creating calm in what can sometimes feel like chaos. Those lessons follow me into my business every day.

🐾 I’m also dog mum to two very loved dogs, who are convinced they should be involved in absolutely everything I do.

🎨 When I’m not bookkeeping, you’ll often find me creating.
My sister and I run a little craft business making magnets and gifts. I love designing things that make people smile, whether that’s a thoughtful gift, a kind message, or something that simply brightens someone’s day.

🌿 I’m passionate about wellbeing and wellness.
I love learning about ways we can take better care of ourselves, physically and mentally. You’ll often find me talking about mindfulness, self-care, reducing overwhelm and finding balance in busy lives.

💜 Menopause awareness is something particularly close to my heart.
Like many women, I’ve discovered that this stage of life can bring unexpected challenges. I believe we need more open conversations, more support and more kindness for women navigating it all while juggling families, careers and businesses.

🤝 At my core, I simply love helping people.
Whether that’s supporting a business owner who feels overwhelmed by their finances, helping a foster child build confidence, encouraging another woman in business, or creating something thoughtful for someone who needs a smile.

That’s actually why Lavender Ledger exists.

Not because I love bookkeeping (although I do enjoy a good spreadsheet!), but because I love helping people feel less stressed, more confident and more in control.

I also love Lego, Musicals and just spending quality time, making memories with the family.

So if you’re new here, I’d love to get to know you too.

Being a new business owner is exciting… and sometimes terrifying.

When people start a business, they often see the logo, the website, the social media posts and the enthusiasm.

What they don’t always see are the moments behind the scenes.

The overwhelm of learning new systems.

The endless stream of social media advice telling you what you “should” be doing.

The shiny new software that promises to solve all your problems.

The self-doubt that quietly asks, “Am I good enough?”

The hope that someone will see the value in what you’re building.

The dream that one day all the hard work, investment, learning and late nights will turn into something sustainable and meaningful.

As a relatively new bookkeeping business owner, I understand those feelings because I’m living them too.

Yes, I have the qualifications. Yes, I’ve invested heavily in training, software, systems and professional memberships. The technical knowledge is there.

But I’m also building a business myself.

I’m learning, growing, networking, making mistakes, celebrating small wins and occasionally wondering whether everyone else knows something I don’t.

And perhaps that’s exactly why I love working with new businesses.

I understand what it feels like to look at your bank account and wonder if you’re making the right decisions.

I understand the excitement of your first customer, your first positive review, your first referral.

I understand that every pound matters.

Most of all, I understand how much courage it takes to start.

My goal isn’t just to keep records and submit returns.

It’s to help business owners feel a little less overwhelmed and a little more confident about their finances, so they can focus on building the business they dreamed about.

Because every established business was once a new business.

And sometimes it helps to have someone walking alongside you who remembers exactly what those first steps feel like.

Today I’m stepping outside my comfort zone and heading to a local Small Business Expo here in Bracknell.

If I’m honest, I’m feeling a little nervous. Walking into a room full of people I don’t know isn’t something that comes naturally to me. But I’ve realised that growing a business often means doing the things that feel uncomfortable.

Every conversation, every event, and every connection is an opportunity to learn something new and meet people who are on a similar journey.

As the owner of Lavender Ledger, I’m passionate about helping small business owners feel more confident about their finances, so they can spend less time worrying about the numbers and more time focusing on growing the business they love.

So today I’m taking my own advice: showing up, being open to learning, and trusting that growth happens just outside our comfort zone.

“And if you see me standing awkwardly clutching a cuppa, please come and say hello first!”

🌿 UK Small Business Week 2026 – Local Business Shout Out 🌿

As part of UK Small Business Week, I’d love to give a shout out to Bracknell Forest Spirits Co. https://www.bracknellforestspirits.co.uk/

It’s easy to admire the finished product, but what often goes unseen is the sheer determination, resilience and hard work that goes into creating a business like this from scratch. From developing a unique gin recipe and navigating the regulations involved, to sourcing local ingredients and creating beautiful packaging, there are so many hoops to jump through along the way.

What stands out to me is not only the quality of the gin itself, but the passion and commitment behind it. Building a product from an idea and bringing it successfully to market is no small achievement.

Small businesses are built on courage, persistence and countless hours of work behind the scenes. This week, let’s celebrate those local business owners who dare to take an idea and make it a reality.

If you’re looking to support local businesses, take a look at what Bracknell Forest Spirits Co has created. 🍸✨

One of the things I’ve learned is that small businesses thrive when we support each other.

Yesterday I received some incredibly generous advice from a fellow bookkeeping professional, reminding me just how valuable community can be.

This week I’m celebrating the people behind small businesses-the dreamers, the risk-takers, the problem-solvers and the people who keep going even when things feel overwhelming.

Happy UK Small Business Week! 💜

The Power of Community

Yesterday was a long travel day, and this morning I’m waking up in beautiful Lourdes feeling grateful.

On the journey, I listened to a podcast from a fellow bookkeeper/accountant whose approach and values really resonated with me. Feeling inspired, I sent an email to thank them and ask a few questions.

What I didn’t expect was the generosity of the response.

They took the time to share advice, encouragement, and practical suggestions to help me grow my business. There was no expectation of anything in return-just someone willing to help another person on a similar path.

Running a business can sometimes feel lonely. Whether you’re a bookkeeper, a business owner, or self-employed in any profession, so much of the responsibility sits on your shoulders.

That’s why community matters.

The people who cheer you on.
The people who answer your questions.
The people who share their experiences honestly.
The people who remind you that you’re not figuring everything out alone.

I’ve found that some of the most valuable lessons haven’t come from courses or textbooks, but from conversations with people who have walked the path before me.

So today I’m feeling thankful for those who are generous with their knowledge and time.

And it’s a reminder to myself that as Lavender Ledger grows, I want to do the same for others whenever I can.
