Health insurance is continuing to move closer to everyday healthcare

Vitality has announced a new partnership with Boots designed to make healthcare services more accessible and affordable through the high street.

The collaboration will begin by giving eligible members discounted access to the Boots Online Doctor Weight Loss Service, with plans to expand into a wider range of preventative and everyday healthcare support over time. The aim is to help people access earlier support, not just treatment when they become unwell.

With growing demand for primary care services and weight management support, partnerships like this highlight how health insurance is evolving to focus more on prevention and long-term wellbeing.

Better sleep could add years to your life

New research shows that improving sleep patterns can have a major impact on health. People who get around seven hours of sleep nightly and keep a consistent bedtime within an hour are up to 24% less likely to die prematurely and could add up to four extra years to their life.

However, 90% of adults don’t meet optimal sleep habits right now, and many sleep fewer than seven hours a night. Simple changes like a regular sleep schedule, reducing screen time before bed and a calming evening routine can make a real difference.

Mental health support is wanted — but stigma still gets in the way

New research shows:

- 82% of employees want workplace mental health support
- Yet only 36% feel comfortable discussing mental health at work
- Almost half believe stigma stops people from asking for help

This highlights a real gap between what people want and what workplaces are providing. Creating a culture where mental health can be talked about openly, without judgement, can make all the difference.

Homebuyers are spending big on décor but protection insurance is taking a back seat

New research from Vitality found that when people buy a home they’re more likely to plan for:

- new furniture (36%)
- décor (26%)
- a new kitchen or bathroom (25%)

But only 15% said protection insurance was a top priority in the process. Meanwhile:

- 62% said their biggest fear if they became too ill to work would be losing their home
- 56% said they couldn’t keep up with mortgage payments for more than six months if their income stopped

It’s a reminder that thinking about protection early could make a big difference if life takes an unexpected turn.

Climate change isn’t just an environmental issue - it’s a health one

New findings show:

- Heat-related deaths in cities could rise by 45% by 2030
- Air pollution deaths could increase by 18% in the same period

But solutions exist. Greener spaces, shaded streets, better active travel and urban cooling aren’t just good for the planet – they reduce hospital admissions, improve wellbeing, and can ease the pressure on healthcare systems.

For people, that means healthier lives. For health systems and insurers, it means prevention that works.
