Are you running a construction business and wondering what you can legitimately claim as expenses?

Many builders miss out on hundreds, sometimes thousands, in tax relief simply because they don't realise what's claimable.

Here are 5 expenses construction workers frequently overlook:
1. Tool storage and van racking (not just the tools themselves)
2. Parking charges and congestion fees for site visits
3. Professional membership fees (FMB, NFBC)
4. Mobile phone contracts used for business
5. Safety equipment beyond basic PPE (dust extraction, testing equipment)

The difference between knowing what you can claim and guessing? It could be £2,000+ staying in your pocket rather than going to HMRC.

We've created a comprehensive guide covering everything from tools and vehicles to subcontractor payments and training costs.

Discover what construction expenses builders can claim in 2025/26. From tools to vehicles - complete tax deduction checklist from Kent accountants.

You know how in your industry there’s one question that comes up time and again?

For us, it’s ‘What’s the difference between an accountant and a bookkeeper?’

And it’s actually a good question, but I’ve had to answer it so often that I thought it would make a good blog topic, so if you’ve ever wondered about this

👇 👇 👇

So, what’s the one question you get asked over and over?

Both bookkeepers and accountants help you achieve your business goals. However, bookkeepers focus on day-to-day transaction processing and accountants handle tax return and business strategy.

Did you know that income from your side hustle might be taxable?

HMRC will have increased powers in 2024 and will be working with Ebay, AirBnB and Uber (to name a few) to collect details of your income and make sure you are paying the tax due.

Get in touch if you would like to discuss your obligations - don't get caught out as there will be penalties and interest to pay!

New tax rules, set to be introduced on January 1st, could see thousands of people who earn a bit of extra income being caught out by the taxman,

Fancy a box of choccies or a bottle of champagne?

You’ve slaved away all summer, juggling the kids, house and your business. You deserve a little treat.

Splash out and put it through the company books.

Did you know that if you are a limited company director, you can take advantage of the HMRC rules on trivial benefits?

This rules states that as long as gifts are under £50, these can be treated as tax-deductible and this applies to your employees as well.

Directors and shareholders can have up to £300 per year of trivial benefits and there’s no upper limit on gifts to employees as long as no one gift is greater than £50.

Have you treated yourself or your staff yet this year?

Trivial benefits are for all year round, not just Christmas.

P.S. If you are a sole trader or partnership, unfortunately trivial benefits do not apply.
