Mobility scooter users are being forced into roads, potholes and other hazards because of pavements blocked by vehicles.

We reviewed 34 claims involving vehicles blocking pavements. Riders were forced into the road, where they hit potholes, an uncovered drain, loose gravel or kerb edges. Others were struck by opening car doors or reversing vehicles. In one of the most serious cases, a rider hit by a car spent 21 days in hospital and needed 25 stitches.

Councils across England are preparing for new powers to tackle pavement parking, and we believe mobility scooter users should have a say in how these changes happen locally.

It comes as Department for Transport figures show 354 people were killed or injured in road collisions involving mobility scooters in 2025, the highest on record.

As part of our Safer Mobility Campaign, supported by Nottingham Trent University, Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership and IAM RoadSmart, we’re urging councils to listen to scooter users. If pavement parking has affected you, please share your experience with your local council.

Maria did it! 💙

Yesterday, our Director Stuart’s daughter Maria crossed the finish line of her half marathon, raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity.

Here’s what Stuart had to say:

“Thank you to every single person who donated. Your support gave Maria the confidence to get to that start line.

A special thank you to her best friend Lucy, who surprised her by turning up and running for the same charity. That meant the world to her.

The last few years haven’t been easy for Maria, and recovery from surgery has been a long road. This race was for the charity and for her sister, but it was also for herself, to prove what she’s capable of.

Maria, I am so beyond proud of you.”
