Under the visionary leadership of President Ismail Omar Guelleh, Djibouti is stepping into a new era of sustainable energy and energy security with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Grand Bara Solar Power Plant.

Spearheaded by Minister of Energy, Mr. Yonis Ali Guedi, and with Dr. Slim Feriani as the CEO of Fonds Souverain de Djibouti, this impactful project aligns seamlessly with the ambitious Vision Djibouti 2035. Emirati company AMEA Power headed by its Chairman Hussain Al Nowais is the technical and investment partner.

Key Highlights:

▪️Capacity: The solar power plant has a capacity of 25 Megawatts, an important step towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.

▪️Public-Private Partnership (PPP): The project, valued at $33 million, operates under a PPP model involving the Ministry of Energy, AMEA Power, the Sovereign Fund of Djibouti (FSD), and Électricité de Djibouti (EDD) for a tenure of 25 years.

▪️FSD is, among other things, the solar energy specialist for The State of Djibouti via this project with AMEA Power as well as others with NeoThemis.

▪️Job Creation and Economic Boost: During the 16-18 month construction phase, the project is set to generate hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, stimulating economic activities and fostering sustainable development.

▪️Cutting-Edge Technology: Grand Bara Solar Power Plant will integrate state-of-the-art technologies, including 5 Megawatt-hour energy storage batteries, ensuring stability and reliability in energy production.

▪️Connectivity: Facilitated by Electricité de Djibouti, the plant will connect to the national grid via a 63 kV power line, with provisions for future expansion up to 100 Megawatts.

GRAND BARA SOLAR SAS, a Djiboutian company formed through collaboration between the FSD and AMEA Power:

▪️Investment Arm of the State: The Djibouti Sovereign Fund plays a key role in financing large-scale development projects, including in the green energy sector.

▪️AMEA Power: A growing renewable energy company in the region.
