Misleading article headline in the Guardian. In actual fact 118,574 pension pots were fully encashed. Of these over 95% were worth less than £50,000 (or under £135pm based on current inflation linked annuity rates).

The context of these withdrawals is important. Were they spent, used to pay off debts, invested or does the person hold other investments for retirement. Ultimately, there is no information on this so the withdrawals may have been completely rational.

This article teaches the importance of having all the facts before trying to draw any rational conclusion.

Huge drop in QROPS providers... Australia falls from first to last position. Any UK pension transferred to a non-qualifying scheme is potentially liable to a charge of 40%+ (even if it appeared on HMRC's QROPS list in the past)...
