📢 BC Budget Update – Big Change for Service Providers

As of October 1, 2026, the new provincial budget introduces PST on certain professional services — including accounting and bookkeeping.

This means that as a bookkeeper, I’ll now be required to:

✔️ Register to collect PST✔️ Charge PST on applicable bookkeeping services✔️ File and remit PST to the province

This is a significant shift, as bookkeeping services were previously exempt from PST.

Other service categories impacted include engineering, architecture, real estate management, and security services.

If you’re a business owner working with a bookkeeper (like me!), this will affect your invoicing and overall service costs starting this fall.

💼 Why Hire a Bookkeeper? A Message from Katerina’s Bookkeeping 💼

Running a business is hard enough — your bookkeeping shouldn’t be what keeps you up at night.

As a business owner, your time is best spent growing your business, serving your clients, and doing what you do best. But staying on top of receipts, invoices, GST/HST, payroll, and CRA deadlines can quickly become overwhelming and stressful.

That’s where Katerina’s Bookkeeping comes in.

Here’s what a professional bookkeeper can do for you:

✅ Save you time – No more late nights trying to reconcile accounts or sort through paperwork.
✅ Keep you CRA-ready – Clean, organized books make tax time smoother and help avoid penalties, interest, and surprises.
✅ Improve cash flow – Know exactly where your money is going and what’s coming in.
✅ Reduce stress – No more guessing, no more backlog, no more worrying if things are done right.
✅ Give you clarity – Make better business decisions with accurate, up-to-date financial reports.
✅ Save you money – Avoid costly mistakes, missed deductions, and late filing fees.

Many business owners start by doing their own books — and that’s okay. But as your business grows, bookkeeping becomes more complex, more time-consuming, and more critical to get right.

At Katerina’s Bookkeeping, my goal is simple:
👉 To keep your books clean, compliant, and stress-free — so you can focus on running your business.

If your books are behind, messy, or just taking too much of your time, let’s talk. There’s no judgment — only solutions. 😊

Some real estate agents are seeing prices starting to drop, with more listings in Greater Victoria’s real estate market and fewer sales. Daniel Clover, a real estate agent with Re/Max Camosun, said Monday that he’s hearing from other agents who are dropping prices on some properties, including a recent case where a condominium’s price was reduced by $30,000 before it finally sold.

What Canadian mortgage debt can tell us about the economy. For most Canadians in 2021, debt is a regular part of life. If you own a house, you likely have a large amount of debt in your mortgage as well as many smaller debts such as car payments, student loans, or credit bills. In 2021, total consumer debt in Canada rose above $2 trillion. You might think of debt as your own personal responsibility, but you may be surprised to know it is also part of something bigger.
