The lender hires a certified appraiser to assess the fair market value of the home.

If the appraised value comes back lower than your offer, you may have to pay the difference out-of-pocket.
📉 Example:

Offer = $520,000

Appraised Value = $500,000

You must cover the $20,000 gap—not the bank.
