Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board orders are now public, and it changes everything for landlords and tenants across Canada's largest rental market.
For years, the LTB kept its final rulings off the public record.
- No searchable database.
- No way for a landlord to look up a prospective tenant's history before signing a lease.
- No way for a tenant to verify a landlord's track record before handing over a deposit.
That information existed, but it was buried in hearing rooms and filing systems, never organized, never searchable, and never free.
Some tenants built a deliberate strategy around that gap.
Not most tenants; the overwhelming majority of renters are honest people doing their best in an expensive market. But a small, documented group learned that the LTB's delays and its lack of transparency created an opening.
Move in. Stop paying. Wait out the eviction process. Move on. Start over. Clean slate.
On July 24th, 2026, that clean slate got a lot harder to come by.
The Landlord and Tenant Board launched a free public database of every final LTB order issued since 2021. Every eviction order. Every non-payment ruling. Every decision made against a tenant, and against a landlord.
Because bad landlords are real too, and they deserve to be on this list just as much.
The database lives at data.ontario.ca/dataset/ltb-order-catalogue. No login. No fee. No lawyer required. You type in a name. You see the record.
This is not the end of the problem. The LTB backlog is real. Bad actors will adapt. But for landlords screening a new application, and for good tenants who want to prove they are exactly who they say they are, this is a concrete, searchable, government-backed tool that did not exist one week ago.
Another nail in the coffin. Not the last one. But a real one.
