I’ve played around with the idea of creating a group money date for a while now, and finally decided to bite the bullet and go for it. I’m envisioning a shared space that allows you to feel supported while you work through your financial action plan. And I pulled this card, which I see as an invitation for us to enter this space with the intention to create some love and joy around our money!

I’m doing a trial run right now, and would love to have you join me for free as I explore how this provides value to people! There are 3 dates available right now. Sign up at https://thefee.as.me/finance-friday

Pssst… would you believe that this the first time I’ve noticed my pyrite is shaped like a heart? Yay for little joys!

If I look stupidly excited, it's because I am! Depending on how you look at this, this is either a lifetime in the making, years in the making, or months in the making.

Long story short, I'm retiring Virtually Perfect Bookkeeping and welcoming The Financially Empowered Entrepreneur. The name change more accurately reflects what my goals have always been, and it's high time that was at the forefront.

Looking for the long version?

The idea of empowerment has always been important to me. When I started this journey, I (naively) thought that my impact would come through the bookkeeping. Data comes in, data goes out, business owners get reports to help them make empowered business decisions, end of story, right? Simple.

The missing piece of the equation? We're humans, having a human experience, and part of that human experience can sometimes look like working through our relationship with money.

Feeling empowered with money and working with finances doesn't always come naturally. We come into our relationship with money with all sorts of beliefs - from our parents, from our lived experiences, from cultural influences, and from generations before us. Sometimes this gets in the way of us gaining clarity around the finances or feeling at peace. But don't we all deserve a little clarity, peace and empowerment?

Which is a long-winded way of saying I'm bringing money relationship coaching to the forefront of the business.

And I'm so friggin delighted.

Check out my brand new website (thefee.ca), and let's talk about your relationship with money.

It’s possible that you know first hand how easy it is as a business owner to set goals in January and then by March they're out the window. Commit to a quarterly check-in.

Every three months stop and assess how your business is running. Assess, recalibrate and move forward. In your calendar set up a repeating calendar entry for every quarter called Quarterly Business Check-In. Commitment to your business will make your vision a reality.

If you have a bookkeeper, send them a calendar task too. Your bookkeeper can prepare the right reports and, if necessary, provide a summary and help you analyze your finances for trouble spots or areas for improvement.

As entrepreneurs, we spend a lot of time building and looking forward and forget to take a pause to reflect on what we’ve achieved and how far we’ve come. I think that January is an ideal time to applaud what you’ve accomplished in the previous year.

Reflecting on our achievements gives us an opportunity to celebrate and clears our way to purposefully create a successful new year.

Take a moment and ask yourself the following questions:
✨ What did I accomplish?
✨ What did I intend to accomplish but did not?
✨ Where did I have breakthroughs and took focused action?
✨ What worked well and would do again?

Remember to celebrate the small wins too!

You can’t really know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been – Maya Angelou

It’s time to assess your financial reports from 2021 so you can be clear about your steps for 2022. A couple of things you should be paying particular attention to is:

➡Income statement
If your profits are lower than expected, you may want to make some changes as you begin a new year. If your profits are higher than expected, it might be a good time to make some larger purchases for which you can record future depreciation. Need to understand depreciation rules? Ask your bookkeeper.

➡Analyze your cash flow statements
A cash flow statement records how your money was spent throughout the year. Cash inflows equate to income. Cash outflows are business expenses. Analyze your cash flow statement to identify cash flow trends throughout the year. Cash flow problems happen for a variety of reasons. The faster you can identify the problem, the faster you can rectify it.

➡Verify vendor information
A lot has changed in your business this past year, and the same goes for your vendors. Start the year by verifying that the contact information, including phone number, email address, and contact name, are still correct for each of your vendors. Purge the system of any inactive vendors or inaccurate information. It’s an opportune time to evaluate your vendor relationships and look for opportunities to perhaps negotiate better deals for this new year.

If you need help pulling your reports and/or analyzing your current financial position, I’d love to be the one to help you. Drop me a line in the comments or send me a DM and we can schedule a consultation call. It will give you some relief knowing you are starting the year off on the right foot.

It’s a new year and like they said, “If you change nothing, nothing will change.”

If you want your 2022 to be more successful than previous years, it’s time for a review of your current financial position and come up with fresh processes and a clear path that will lead you to a prosperous 2022. It’s what I do and what I love.

Send me a DM and I’ll help you get on track to achieve your goals.

Cheers to a new year, friends! In past New Years’ celebrations, I’ve spent time exploring far-flung destinations. Truth be told, I’ve never been a huge celebrator of holidays, but I love to see them as opportunities to reflect on what I can be grateful for. So this New Year, I’m excited to bask in the quiet that this time of year can bring. How will you be celebrating New Year’s Day?
