The Canadian Council of Snowmobile Organizations is calling on the federal government to invest $55 million in snowmobile trail infrastructure across Canada and to make winter trails eligible for future federal infrastructure and climate funding.

Across the country, 131,000 kilometers of volunteer-managed snowmobile trails connect communities, support tourism and rural economies, and provide important recreation and emergency access. But much of the infrastructure behind those trails — bridges, culverts, signage and grooming equipment — is aging, while extreme weather continues to add new pressures.

Now is an opportunity for riders to speak up.

CCSO has made it easy to send a letter directly to your MP and key federal ministers. It takes about two minutes, and adding a few words about what snowmobile trails mean to your community can make it even more powerful.

Off-road vehicles to be prohibited in the Kamloops Fire Centre

KAMLOOPS – Effective immediately on Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, off-road vehicles (ORV) will be prohibited on Crown land throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Given the scope and scale of fires currently burning in B.C., and the elevated danger ratings in many southern regions of the province, this prohibition is being put into place to further protect public safety.

As of Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, the operation of any off-road vehicle for recreational purposes on Crown land will be prohibited and all on-highway vehicles must remain on road surfaces as defined in the Forest Planning and Practices Regulation.


The prohibition applies to off-road vehicles as defined in the Off-Road Vehicle Act and section 2 (a) of the Off-Road Vehicle Regulation:

all-terrain vehicles
motorcycles
off-road side-by-side vehicles


This prohibition does not apply to private lands or national parks. It also does not apply to emergency response, agriculture or commercial / industrial users who operate off-road vehicles for farming or business purposes.

This prohibition will remain in place until 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Oct. 9, 2026, or until the order is rescinded. The BC Wildfire Service is continually monitoring conditions and this prohibition may be expanded or rescinded as needed.

Offences and fines

Anyone found in contravention of a restricted activity prohibition may be issued a ticket for $1,150, required to pay an administrative penalty of $10,000, or, if convicted in court, fined up to $100,000 and/or sentenced for up to one year in jail.



If your activity causes or contributes to a wildfire, you may be fined up to $1 million and/or sentenced to up to 3 years in jail, as well as be responsible for all firefighting and associated costs. More information about the Wildfire Act and Regulation is available online.

Actually, no. Hold your beer. And your throttle.

We love a good “watch this sh*t” moment as much as anybody.

But right now, BC’s backcountry is tinder freaking dry — and this is one time when being a badass means knowing when not to ride.

We love your machines.
We love your adventurous spirit.

But right now? With every punce of Canadian Kindness .... For the love of BC... Stay home☆

Not because we don't want you here.

Because we want something left for you to come back to.

One spark. One hot exhaust. One mechanical failure. One sh*tty piece of luck — and your weekend adventure can become somebody else's evacuation order.

And those little dots on the map below those mountains?

Those are our homes. Our families. Our neighbours.

These trails didn't magically appear either. Local clubs, volunteers and riders have spent years cutting, clearing, maintaining and fighting to keep access to this country.

So please don't burn down the damn playground.

Park the toys. Crack a beer in the shop. Polish something unnecessarily. Tell your buddies your machine makes 40 more horsepower than it actually does.

Wait for rain. 🌧️

Then COME BACK AND SEND IT.

We'll be damn happy to see you.

GM Gerald met up with Darren Massullo, on his way to Tulameen. Darren is a member of the Timberline Cruisers Snowmobile club. At our last club meeting, we talked about helping out our neighbouring clubs. That 6 week gap in snow during Jan-Feb hurt most clubs in BC, including ours, but it was even harder on smaller clubs. CoqSnow members decided to give Merritt & Tulameen snowmobile clubs $1,000 each.
