Your group plan says 60% of your salary. That's not what lands in your account.

Most employer-paid disability benefits in Ontario are taxable income. Because your employer pays the premium, the CRA treats the payout like a paycheque.

On a $120K household, that benefit isn't $72K a year after tax. It's closer to $50K. That's roughly $4,100 a month, not $6,000.

The gap doesn't show up on your benefits summary. It shows up when you're already in a claim.

Know your after-tax benefit. Not the percentage. Those are two very different numbers.
