Statistics Canada reports that 2.75 million Canadians were self-employed as of April 2025, showing an increase of almost 3% from the previous year.

Many self-employed clients are unaware that traditional banks products rely only on fully verifiable income from line 15000 of a T1 tax return, which can make qualification feel limited.

The good news is that several alternative lenders take a broader view and are able to consider your gross business earnings, recent business performance, and supporting documents that reflect your true cash flow.

With the right guidance, your self-employed income can open more doors than you think.

Turn your self-employed income into real buying power.

"Rents have eased in part due to a surge in supply with new apartments being completed, a slowdown in population growth and a heightened level of economic uncertainty," says Shaun Hildebrand, Urbanation president.

Average asking rents drop annually for eighth straight month to $2,129 according to monthly report from Rentals.ca

The report states that the average asking rents in Canada are 5.7% higher than they were two years ago and 12.6% above levels from three years ago.

The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OFSI) will be testing Loan-to-Income limit framework until at least January 2026. They are planning to shift away from the stress test criteria that is based on a minimum qualifying rate of 5.25% or 2% above the borrower's contract rate.

The loan-to-income rule limits the share of new uninsured mortgages that exceed 4.5 times a borrower's gross annual income.
