Insurance Coverage for Motorcycles and Mopeds
Motorcycles and mopeds offer a fuel-efficient, lower-cost way to get around—but when it comes to insurance, they come with many of the same considerations as cars.
Do you need insurance?
In New Brunswick, insurance is required for motor vehicles, including motorcycles and many mopeds (typically 50cc and above). The focus is usually on liability coverage, which protects you if you cause injury to others or damage someone else’s property.
While laws vary by province , liability insurance is typically mandatory. However, coverage for your own bike -such as theft or physical damage—is usually optional unless required by a lender.
If your motorcycle or moped is financed or leased, the lender will typically require comprehensive and collision coverage to protect their investment.
What motorcycle insurance can include
Motorcycle and moped policies can offer more tailored protection, including:
• Liability coverage (injury and property damage to others)
• Collision coverage (damage to your own bike in an accident)
• Comprehensive coverage (theft, fire, vandalism, weather damage)
• Coverage for accessories and custom parts
• Uninsured/underinsured motorist protection
• Medical payments or accident benefits coverage
Why it matters
Even though motorcycles and mopeds may be smaller and less expensive than cars, the risks on the road are still significant. Having the right coverage helps protect both your bike and your financial security.
We’re here to help
Coverage needs can vary based on how and where you ride. A quick review with your broker can help ensure you have the right protection without overpaying.

Home Inspection: Why Your Insurance Company Is Asking ?

If your insurance company requests a home inspection, don’t be alarmed—it’s a normal part of ensuring your coverage is accurate and up to date.
Many homeowners assume an inspection means their premium will increase. In reality, the goal is to make sure your home is insured for the right value, so you’re properly protected if a loss ever occurs.
Why inspections happen
Insurance providers may request an inspection for a few common reasons:
• To confirm your home’s value, especially if it’s larger, unique, or custom-built
• To review older homes or specific features like wood or oil heating
• To assess items such as electrical systems (e.g., aluminum wiring) or service capacity
While brokers use advanced tools to estimate your home’s value, some situations call for a closer look to ensure everything is accurate.
What to expect
An inspection is typically straightforward and focused on your home’s structure, systems, and overall condition. In many cases, no action is required. If recommendations are made, they’re intended to improve safety and reduce risk.
We’re here to help
If you’re contacted about an inspection and have questions, your broker is your best resource. Contact us at www.easterninsurance.ca, we’re here to guide you through the process and make sure you feel confident every step of the way.
