Commodity futures contracts follow a predictable lifespan.

The size of open interest indicates where the contract is in its lifecycle.

Starting at zero, open interest will grow steadily until it peaks when the contract becomes the nearby or front-month contract.

Approximately a month before the first delivery day, participants will begin liquidating their positions.

CBOT SRW Wheat closes the month with resistance at the declining 50- Month moving average.

The last attempt to close above on a monthly basis was in April/May of 2024.

The moving average was advancing then.

Now it is declining....
