Today is and this year's theme happens to be "Mental Health at Work", which is very near and dear to our missions and core values at Mosley Group Benefits Inc. and The GroupBenefitz Platform Inc.. While healthy working environments can help build and maintain the mental health and resiliency of their employees, unhealthy working environments can harm the mental health of their employees which impacts their family life outside of work as well.

Today we are called upon by the World Health Organization to think about our work environment, its impact on the mental health of our staff, and what we are doing to support our teammates when they are coping with difficulties. Support can be free....such as recognizing others and checking in with staff and peers, but then there are more serious issues that may require clinical interventions and outsourcing support becomes more appropriate and effective. Without professional support available, it is difficult for individuals who are financially vulnerable to complete a treatment cycle. It typically takes 8 sessions with a professional counsellor to have an impact on behaviour, and depending on the type of counsellor this might cost between $1,000-$2,000 for a round of treatment.

The good news is that we are at the beginning of a modernization of the benefits industry, and we are seeing some of the best corporate mental health programming we've ever seen emerge. These new programs enable companies to effectively and affordably support staff with longer term treatment models regardless of where they are on a mental health journey (Healthy-Coping-Illness/Disability-Recovery) and the individual's ability to pay does not impact whether they receive the treatment they need.

In my opinion, no one describes the value of counselling better than Dr. Warren Shepell himself - today is a good day to take 6 minutes to watch this: https://vimeo.com/794340540/d3822e7093

We are honoured to be recognized by Benefits and Pensions Monitor as one of the Top Pension and Group Benefits Consultants for 2024 - thank you!! We are humbled to be named along side the other great nominees shown here: https://www.benefitsandpensionsmonitor.com/best-in-pensions-and-benefits/the-top-pension-and-group-benefits-consultants-in-canada/386653. I am grateful for our team members, David Mosley, Daniel Smith and Dr. Warren Shepell, for their important and impactful contributions to our client experience and success.

While we are boutique in nature, we have unlocked turnkey capabilities by leveraging new benefits technology (powered by The GroupBenefitz Platform Inc. and Ideabytes) combined with bulk buying power....which is only possible by sharing with friends. I've never had more fun working in this industry until I started partnering with like-minded brokers across the country. I'm proud of the very deep expertise we've collectively developed in a short amount of time, especially in the quickly emerging Private Health, WellBeing, Gig Economy and SME Flex spaces. Mosley Group Benefits Inc. will continue to entrench itself working in these shared environments where the old saying "rising tides lift all boats" rings very true, with the ultimate winners being our clients' employees and their families who achieve better coverage and pricing over time.

We share this recognition with our partner brokers, insurance and wellness providers, and our clients who rely on us to holistically help improve the health outcomes of their teams. Thank you for your trust!

It's by CMHA National / ACSM National, where this year’s theme is compassion. At some point in our lives we will all deal with personal and emotional problems, and any leader or HR professional will know that these problems are not left at the door when employees enter the workplace. When presented with either our own or the suffering of others, we can choose how to respond….and the CMHA calls us to respond with kindness.

We learned about compassion today at work thanks to and Tara Adams, and also at home with my children reading the ultimate guide to showing compassion to others and oneself, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" After all, when we fill other people's buckets, we fill our own.

Today we have a LOT to celebrate....it's our 5th Anniversary at Mosley Group Benefits Inc., it's National Employee Benefits Day, and my birthday.....apparently I was born to work in benefits lol.

Today is a great time to reflect on where we have been, but more importantly where we are going. Everything is changing....the nature of the workplace, public healthcare is expanding in certain areas and bursting at the seems in others, and all of these factors present new challenges for both employers and employees in staying healthy and performing at high levels. The market is currently realigning in a number of ways to help employers meet their employees where they are at, with a more holistic approach to total personal wellbeing, and we are excited to be on the forefront of some of these concepts through our partnership with The GroupBenefitz Platform Inc.

I am grateful for the hard work put in by our team members Dan Smith and David Mosley, for the loyalty of our clients, and for our insurance, wellness, and technology partners without whom none of this would be possible.

Hi everyone, this is important and I'm asking you for help. There is a major problem with how certain Canadian group Dependent Life insurance contracts define eligible children, and it is time for all industry stakeholders to come together to ensure we properly take care of young families through establishing a minimum standard "from live birth" definition.

While most policies have already been updated, many insurers still allow it to be quoted and there are active policies still in existence that requires a baby to live 14 days before qualifying for life insurance coverage. We would like to update these legacy definitions...modern workers deserve modern plans. My guess is that companies with this outdated 14 day definition may not even realize they have it, and may not realize the cost difference to fix it is immaterial.

A Call to Action

These options should no longer exist, and no one in our industry should EVER be in a position of needing verify the number of hours or days a baby lived to determine if an infant death qualifies for Dependent Life insurance coverage. We can do better, and the young parents we serve deserve better.

I've created an online petition where you can read about Patrick and Nolan, the little boys to which this initiative is dedicated. We would like you to e-sign (and share with your network) to help us convince insurers to only cover children from live birth going forward, and to ask for the creation of new enhanced options including Pre-Natal benefits for stillbirth and miscarriage, and provide mental health and bereavement support as part of the coverage.

Thank you to Sara Popper and family, and Dave Patriarche for your voices in this important movement.

Join us this Thursday for our December "Leaders Inspiring Leaders" webinar, where we are excited to welcome Joel Hilchey to talk about leveraging the value of fun at work!

Most people assume work+fun are sort of like oil+water - they don't mix.

But what if that's wrong? Fun is (or should be) a valuable resource to be leveraged - Cheap, renewable, and (mostly) clean.

As global crises pile on, fun is the first thing to get bumped, but there are big benefits to adding it back in: increased productivity, creativity, and resilience; decreased burnout, absenteeism, and apathy. During this webinar, Joel will share techniques and ideas to transform your work experience! And let’s face it, we could all us a little more fun these days…

Date: Thursday, December 8th at 1:00pm ET

Admission: $20.00 + HST/fees (free for Mosley Group Benefits clients - message for promo code)

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day 🌼

Today is a day of celebration for our peoples, communities and nations across Turtle Island. We celebrate where we came from, where we are going, and all the lifetimes in between. Today and everyday, Indigenous people deserve to feel peace and joy.

In the words of Robin Wall Kimmerer in Braiding Sweetgrass:

“I want to stand by the river in my finest dress. I want to sing, strong and hard, and stomp my feet with a hundred others so that the waters hum with our happiness. I want to dance for the renewal of the world.” 🌞🌿🌙❤️
