There’s a sea of orange today in Vancouver as members of NACCA’s team join with nearly 300 Indigenous sisters and allies from across the globe in remembrance of all those who survived residential schools, and those who never made it home. Truth and reconciliation include economic reconciliation, and for 30 years NACCA and the Indigenous Financial Institution network have worked to put capital and opportunity back in Indigenous hands. Today we honour the children who did not come home from residential schools, and the survivors and families whose resilience continues to shape this country. Our offices are closed today as we take time to remember and recommit.

La vérité et la réconciliation passent aussi par la réconciliation économique, et depuis 30 ans, la NACCA et le réseau d'institutions financières autochtones travaillent à remettre le capital et les occasions entre les mains des Peuples autochtones. Aujourd'hui, nous honorons les enfants qui ne sont jamais rentrés des pensionnats, ainsi que les survivants et les familles dont la résilience continue de façonner ce pays. Following the appearance of men wearing masks in a display of hatred, 4 Generations Creations in Kamloops / Tk'emlúps te Secwepemc is holding a healing gathering today. (Tuesday, September 29th from 4pm - 6pm)

Residential school Survivors, Elders, families, community members, dignitaries, drummers, singers, dancers, and allies are invited to stand together peacefully in a visible demonstration of strength, culture and solidarity while we drum/sing to cleanse the area they stood.

Indigenous Mothers Call for Unity for Drumming/Singing Cleansing Following White Nationalist Gathering on Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Land.

5 Indigenous Mothers, (Ashley Michel, Stephanie Lindley, Morning-Star Peters, Willow Peters, and Cam Gottfriedson) are calling for solidarity, safety and collective action following the appearance of an white nationalist group on the lands of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc.

Their presence on our lands cannot be separated from the history carried here. Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc is home to Survivors, descendants and families profoundly affected by the residential school system.

On Tuesday, September 29th from 4pm - 6pm, we are calling Survivors, Elders, families, community members, dignitaries, drummers, singers, dancers, and allies to stand together peacefully in a visible demonstration of strength, culture and solidarity while we drum/sing to cleanse the area they stood.

Our response will be grounded in our people and our ways: our drums, our medicines, our songs, our Elders and our collective presence.

This is not an invitation to confrontation. The safety of our Elders, children, families and community remains paramount. We ask everyone attending to conduct themselves peacefully and to follow the direction of organizers and appropriate community safety personnel. Please wear your orange shirts, ribbon skirts, or regalia if you own one.

Our community has survived attempts to remove us from our lands, languages, families and cultures but we are still here. White supremacy, racism and hate have no place on Secwépemcúl’ecw.

The IWI Indigenous Women in Industry Summit Canada opens this afternoon at 3 PM PDT with a Canoe Ceremony.

Hosted on the traditional territories of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, the Ceremony will be the welcome of the visitors to the lands and waters.
