In January 2026, MdM Accounting Services announced that we would no longer be accepting new clients. It wasn’t an easy decision, but we knew we were making space for something very special. 💕

We are so excited to officially welcome the newest little member of the MdM family — Lauren!🎀

Kayla and her family are soaking in this incredibly special season as they adjust to life as a family of four. Over the next 12 months, Kayla will be working a modified schedule, allowing her to continue supporting our clients while also enjoying this precious time with her growing family.

At this time, MdM will remain closed to new clients as we continue to prioritize our existing clients and give Kayla the flexibility she needs during this next chapter.

Please join us in congratulating Kayla and her family and welcoming sweet Lauren to the MdM family! 🤍

💡 7 Business Expenses That Are Commonly Missed
You might be surprised at how many business owners forget to claim expenses they're entitled to.
Here are a few commonly overlooked ones:
✔️ Business bank and credit card fees
✔️ Software and subscriptions (QuickBooks, Microsoft 365, Canva, etc.)
✔️ Home office expenses (if you qualify)
✔️ Business-use portion of your cell phone and internet
✔️ Professional memberships and annual dues
✔️ Continuing education and industry-related courses
✔️ Mileage and vehicle expenses for business travel

Every business is different, and not every expense applies to everyone. Keeping good records throughout the year makes it much easier to identify what you're eligible to claim when tax time comes around.

📌 Which of these surprised you the most? Let us know in the comments!

*Always consult with your bookkeeper or accountant to determine which expenses are deductible for your specific business.*

🚨 A reality check from your bookkeeper…

We aren’t here to run your business for you.
We won’t magically make you rich.
And we can’t keep your company profitable if you ignore the numbers.

Our job is to give you accurate financial information, help you understand how your business is performing, and make sure you’re keeping as much of your hard-earned money as legally possible instead of overpaying the CRA.

That’s it.

No hacks.
No get-rich-quick strategies.
No hustle culture.

Just solid financials, informed decisions, and a business built on numbers you can actually trust.

The best businesses aren’t built on shortcuts—they’re built on knowing your numbers.

💳 **Why Reconciling Your Accounts Matters**

Think of reconciling your accounts as a financial health check for your business.

When you regularly reconcile your bank and credit card accounts, you can:

✅ Catch errors before they become bigger problems.
✅ Identify duplicate or missing transactions.
✅ Spot unauthorized or fraudulent charges.
✅ Ensure your financial reports are accurate.
✅ Know exactly how much money your business actually has.
✅ Be prepared for GST filings and year-end.
✅ Make confident business decisions based on accurate numbers.

Without regular reconciliations, your books may look "finished," but they may not actually be correct.

Good bookkeeping isn't just about entering transactions—it's about making sure every dollar is accounted for.

📋 Monthly Business Checklist
Running a business means wearing a lot of hats—but your bookkeeping shouldn't be an afterthought.
At the end of each month, make sure you've:
✔️ Reconciled your bank and credit card accounts
✔️ Uploaded and organized your receipts
✔️ Sent any outstanding invoices
✔️ Reviewed unpaid bills
✔️ Checked your cash flow
✔️ Reviewed your Profit & Loss statement
✔️ Set aside money for GST and taxes
✔️ Reviewed your payroll (if applicable)

Taking just a little time each month can help you avoid costly mistakes, reduce stress at tax time, and give you a clear picture of how your business is performing.

💾 Save this post so you can come back to it at the end of every month, and share it with another business owner who could use a helpful reminder!

Need help staying on top of your books? We'd love to help make your month-end a whole lot easier.

💸 Money can’t buy happiness… but handing off your bookkeeping comes pretty close.

Most business owners didn’t start their business because they love reconciling accounts, sorting receipts, or stressing over tax deadlines. They started it to do what they do best.

When your books are organized, up to date, and taken care of, you get more than accurate numbers—you get time back, less stress, and peace of mind knowing your finances are under control.

And honestly? I’ve never had a client regret taking bookkeeping off their plate. 😉

😂 Let’s be honest… we all checked off at least a few of these.

Whether it’s a mixing business and personal, a missing receipt, or that “business trip” that really was taking your kids to Disney bookkeeping has a way of keeping things interesting.

No judgment here—we’ve seen it all, and chances are you’re not the only one who’s been there. 😉

So tell us… how many squares did you get?

😇 1-5: You’re doing great!
😜 6-10: Pretty normal.
😳 11-15: We should probably talk.
🤯 BINGO: You’re officially keeping bookkeepers employed. 😂

Everyone says, “At least you’re your own boss.”

What they don’t tell you is that time off still has to be planned around busy season, payroll deadlines, month-end, year-end, client emergencies, and everything else that keeps the business running. 😅

The freedom is real—but so is the responsibility.

Wouldn’t trade it, though. ❤️
