When we think about our weight, we tend to focus on the number on the scale.

But health is about so much more.

* It's about having the energy to get through your day.
* Sleeping well.
* Managing stress.
* Moving your body.
* Feeling strong, capable, and well.

The scale doesn't tell the whole story. And we know that a healthy weight looks different for everyone.

True wellness is reflected in how we feel, how we function, and how we care for ourselves over time.

One of the things I enjoy most is working with organizations that understand health isn't one-dimensional.
The most effective benefits plans support the whole person by providing access to resources that help employees thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Mental health supports, preventive care, nutrition counselling, wellness programs, and health education all play an important role in helping people stay healthy.

I'm always encouraged by employers who take a proactive approach, investing in prevention, promoting healthy habits, and providing resources that help people address concerns early.
When people feel their best, everyone benefits.

Global Wellness Day started in Türkiye in 2012.

Its founder, wellness advocate Belgin Aksoy, created the movement after experiencing personal health challenges and recognizing that many people put their well-being last.

Her goal was simple: create a day that encourages people around the world to pause and consider the state of their physical, mental, and emotional health.

Today, Global Wellness Day is celebrated in more than 100 countries and serves as a reminder to reflect on our well-being and the small choices that can make a meaningful difference:

✨ Taking a break when you need one
✨ Moving your body
✨ Managing stress
✨ Connecting with others
✨ Making time for rest

As leaders, employers, and individuals, we all have a role to play in creating healthier workplaces, stronger communities, and environments where people can thrive.

Wishing everyone a happy Global Wellness Day!

Some of these statistics are difficult to read:

• Men live an average of 4 years less than women
• 64% of Canadian men report moderate-to-high stress
• Men are less likely to seek preventative care
• Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death among Canadian men

A lot of men carry pressure quietly and push through without talking about the impact it can have on their health.

This is why Awareness matters.
These conversations matter.
Support matters.
Prevention matters.

Saturday, June 6, is National Health & Fitness Day!

So often, when we think about health and fitness, we imagine intense workouts or dramatic lifestyle changes.
But what we often forget is that some of the healthiest workplace habits are actually the simplest ones.

• taking real breaks
• stepping outside for fresh air
• encouraging movement throughout the day
• supporting mental wellbeing
• creating healthier boundaries
• checking in on each other

Small habits really do add up over time, and a healthy workplace culture is often built through the little things people do consistently every day.
How many squares could your workplace check off in the next few weeks? I plan on working on a few this weekend.

Research from McKinsey* found that 89% of employees say psychological safety at work is essential.

Psychological safety means people feel comfortable:

• speaking up
• sharing ideas
• asking questions
• expressing concerns
• and most importantly, showing up authentically without fear of judgment, exclusion, or negative consequences.

Pride Month shines an important light on the impact that belonging, inclusion, and acceptance have on a person’s well-being, confidence, and overall workplace experience.

When people feel psychologically safe, it strengthens communication, collaboration, trust, mental well-being, and the overall workplace culture.
Everyone deserves to feel like they belong.

Happy Pride Month,

World No To***co Day is a reminder of the significant impact to***co use continues to have on both individual health and our health care system, and a day where the world reaffirms its commitment to reducing the harm caused by to***co.

According to the Government of Canada, to***co use remains one of the leading preventable causes of disease and premature death in Canada, contributing to conditions such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, and chronic lung disease.

There’s also an important connection to employee benefits and drug plans.

Chronic conditions related to smoking can lead to
* increased medication use
* disability claims
* extended absences from work, and
* growing pressure on workplace benefit plans and overall health care costs.

The more we can educate on the harmful effects of to***co use, is a step toward quitting and a step toward a healthier, stronger life, not only for individuals, but for healthier workplaces and communities overall.

The answer is...

False.

We've all heard the 10,000-step goal, but according to ParticipACTION and the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines, the bigger focus is really on moving more and sitting less.

The good news is that regular movement, even in smaller amounts, can still positively support:

* heart health
* mobility
*stress management
* energy levels
* sleep, and
* overall well-being.

Like many health improvements, it's all about the small, consistent habits that add up over time.

Now that the better weather has arrived, I am trying to make sure I get out more, because a daily walk does so much more for us than we realize.

Happy World Bee Day. 🐝

Even in health care and wellness spaces, bee products like honey and propolis have been recognized for their antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties.

According to research published through the National Institutes of Health, medical-grade honey continues to be studied for its role in wound care and infection management.

It is incredible when you think about how something so small contributes not only to our ecosystems and food supply, but also to broader conversations around health and wellness.
A good reminder that even the smallest things can have a meaningful impact. 🐝

One of my biggest takeaways from attending the Canadian Leadership Council on Drug Plan Partnerships was how quickly the employee benefits landscape continues to evolve and how important it is to stay connected to the conversations happening within the industry.

I always enjoy spending time with peers and colleagues at events like this because we learn from each other.
Hearing different perspectives and experiences helps me continue to grow, stay informed, and better support the clients I work with every day.

Some of the discussions throughout the day focused on:

• balancing cost and care in specialty drug management
• the patient journey from diagnosis to medication access
• the future of drug plan partnerships
• and the overall business of health care in Canada

If you’re an employer trying to navigate the changing benefits landscape and wondering what these shifts could mean for your organization or employees, I’m always happy to have a conversation.
