NMBC - Nanaimo Mountain Bike Club

NMBC - Nanaimo Mountain Bike Club NMBC is a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit trail advocacy group in Nanaimo, BC. We also host special events such as mountain bike races and camping/riding trips.

We build, ride & maintain sustainable, non-motorized mountain bike trails and host group rides, events and volunteer trail-build days. The Nanaimo Mountain Bike Club supports and advocates for access to the forest lands around Nanaimo and builds and maintains authorized singletrack trails in the Nanaimo area. Besides our trail advocacy work, we organize group rides at least five times

a week, rain or shine, all year long (night rides with lights in the winter). The Nanaimo Mountain Bike club is affiliated with the International Mountain Bicycling Association of Canada. Membership dues are $40 per year, which goes towards our trail maintenance and mountain bike advocacy efforts, as well as trail management liability insurance. Posting Guidelines:
1. No posts about unauthorized trail building activities.
2. No bicycle-related advertisements. You may post a single LINK to an ad on a classified site such as Pinkbike or Used Nanaimo.
3. No negative or slanderous posts about specific individuals or groups. Posts not adhering to these guidelines may be removed without warning!

🌿 Weekday Trail Day at Doumont

We're heading out for some brush cutting and have three extra brush trimmers ready to go if you'd like to lend a hand.

It doesn't take a huge crew to make a big difference. Imagine if each rider came out to one trail day each year — our volunteer capacity would grow tremendously, and we'd be able to keep the trails we all love running smoothly and looking their best.

🤝 Trail etiquette helps keep everyone safe and ensures our shared trail network remains enjoyable for all users. Respecting trail directions and following signage are simple ways we can avoid conflicts and protect the experience for everyone.

🚨 Friendly reminder: Pink Unicorn is a downhill-only trail. Please follow all trail signage and avoid entering from the bottom.

We've recently had a few user conflicts in the area, so a quick reminder goes a long way.

Long-time users may remember that Pink Unicorn was once commonly used as a hiking route. To help separate uphill and downhill traffic, NMBC built Gravel Bure as the designated multi-use trail for climbing and access.

If you're hiking or heading uphill in the area, please use Gravel Bure rather than ascending Pink Unicorn. Separating uphill and downhill traffic helps everyone stay safe and allows both trails to be enjoyed as intended.

Thanks for doing your part to keep the trails safe, fun, and welcoming for everyone. 🤘

⚒️ BC Trails Day + Dig Day with Hillbilly Hustle Recap – Westwood

Another great day giving back to the trails we all enjoy.

Our crew of volunteers spent the morning freshening up Sempiternal, raking the entire trail and tackling touch-ups around the exit near K2. Keep an eye out for a new balance log feature currently in development as well near the kiosk (map coming in the fall).

You’ll also notice a change to the final gap jump:

✔️ You can still gap it.
✔️ You can now roll it smoothly.

No photos this time—you’ll have to come see the improvements for yourself on your next ride through Westwood. 😉

A huge thank you to .ltd for supporting our Dig Days with volunteer T-shirts. They’ve been a huge hit with first time dig day volunteers. If you’re looking for custom printing, apparel, or promotional products, give them a look.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who came out to lend a hand. Every shovel, rake, and wheelbarrow helps keep our trail network thriving.

In celebration of BC Trails Day, we’re teaming up with Hillbilly Hustle 50K for a community dig day at Westwood.

BC Trails Day is all about celebrating and caring for the trails that keep us connected, healthy, and outside.

started during the pandemic as a way to bring the Nanaimo trail running community together when races disappeared and the world slowed down. What began as a virtual grassroots event has grown into an annual in-person race on Te’tuxwtun (Mount Benson), with 17k, 35k, and 50k distances. See you at the race May 17th!

Their support helps us continue building and maintaining the trails we all use and love — and they’ll also be providing limited-edition dig day shirts for volunteers.

The 2026 Fiver Series is officially underway! 🚵💨

Sempiternal delivered everything we love about a race night: fast climbs, fast descents, tight zig-zags through the trees, good laughs with friends, and of course… pizza, prizes, and post-race stories.

A huge thank you to the 25 riders who came out to kick off the season. And yes, the Chainless category is still rolling strong. 🤘

Special thanks to Ben and the volunteers who helped with timing, registration, setup, and takedown. This year we’ve also stepped up our game with a new timing system, making results faster and more accurate than ever.

A shout-out as well to Logan Keen for bringing the hype on the mic and camera, keeping the energy high and cheering riders on throughout the evening.

One of the best parts of the Fiver Series is seeing our community come together. From racers and volunteers to spectators and sponsors, it takes all of us to keep the stoke rolling.

We’ll do it all again next month. See you at the next one!

Noticed any changes at Westwood lately? 👀

Our Summer Trail Crew has been hard at work keeping our local lines running smooth this season. From refreshing berms and trimming back overgrown brush to tackling ongoing trail maintenance, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes to improve the riding experience.

A huge thank you to our Summer Trail Crew, supported through Canada Summer Jobs, for helping keep the trails in great shape for everyone who rides them.

The next time you rail a berm, enjoy a clear sightline, or find yourself saying “the trails are running great,” there’s a good chance these folks had something to do with it. 🙌

If you see the crew out on the trails, give them a wave, a smile, or a quick thank you—they’re putting in the work so the rest of us can enjoy the ride.

Today we're celebrating all the ways people ride and connect through cycling in Nanaimo.

From neighbourhood bike paths and commuting to work, to family rides, gravel roads, mountain bike trails, and everything in between—every ride starts with two wheels and a sense of adventure.

Mountain biking is just one part of Nanaimo's cycling community. While we're known for our trails, we recognize that cycling connects us from the land to the city, from forests to bike lanes, from trailheads to coffee shops, and from recreation to everyday transportation.

At the Nanaimo Mountain Bike Club, we believe trails are more than places to ride. They're places where people connect with nature, build friendships, challenge themselves, and contribute to something bigger than themselves.

Whether you're rolling down the Parkway Trail, riding to work, exploring Westwood and Doumont, or introducing someone to their first ride, you're part of Nanaimo's cycling community.

Here's to the riders, volunteers, advocates, land managers, local businesses, and community partners who help keep Nanaimo moving.

Happy World Bicycle Day. See you out there. 💚

Join us at Port Theatre on June 28 for Ride to Resilience.

This is a powerful film celebrating the spirit, grit, and connection found through mountain biking and community. “The documentary follows Steve Vanderhoek, his mental health journey, mountain biking, and the quiet strength it takes to carry on.”

Hosted by the Nanaimo Mountain Bike Club and supported by Family of Riders, you won’t want to miss this evening that will bring Vancouver Island riders, trail builders, and outdoor enthusiasts together to celebrate the incredible island riding community.

Alongside Ride to Resilience, we’ll also be screening a film by Lazy Sundays, adding even more stoke, stories, and island riding culture to the night.

A massive THANK YOU to our incredible Murderhorn Maiden prize donors for empowering women’s mountain biking & athlete Development! 🌲✨

That’s a wrap on an unforgettable weekend, and we are still buzzing from the energy! ⚡️

We set out on the Nanaimo trails with a clear mission: to elevate women’s mountain biking, fuel rider progression, and build a community where every rider—whether dropping into their first clinic or lining up at the start gate—feels unstoppable.
Looking out at the dirt, the grit, and the pure joy on the trails, it’s safe to say the future of women's riding isn't just bright—it’s already here.

Progress doesn't happen in a vacuum. It takes a village. Beyond the incredible prize pool that kept the stoke levels high, we are deeply grateful to our phenomenal community, our dedicated partners, and our volunteer media team for donating their time to capture every milestone in real-time. 📸

To everyone who came out: you showed up, you pushed your limits, and you lifted each other up. Let’s keep this incredible momentum rolling through 2026 and beyond.

See you on the trails!
