People often ask us why we purchase carbon offsets. Simple answer - the science says they are the most effective thing we can do.

Carbon offsets are terrible. They are still the most effective tool we have. If we truly want to tackle the climate crisis, we need to start treating them as such.

As a reminder, when there is so much going wrong in the world, it can be free to do something right. Here's a review of one of my favorite offsets, paid by TheCoin's yield capture.

In this project, we helped subsidize small, portable solar home systems (SHS) sold to off-grid communities in Uganda and Kenya. These projects are attractive because they provide a very reliable way to reduce CO2.

There was a personal attraction for me as well. I spent my first years in a remote village without electricity. One of my earliest memories is of my Dad marking exams by lantern light (pictured below). While it may seem romantic, the reality is that these constraints make valuable economic activity—and even basic education—incredibly difficult.
