At Ingle Lewer, we recognize that Ramadan is expected to begin across Canada this week.
As the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is observed through fasting from dawn to sunset, nightly prayers (Taraweeh), recitation of the Qur’an, charity, and gathering for iftar.
For campuses across Canada, this month is both a sacred observance and an important student support opportunity.
Because Ramadan 2026 falls in winter, daily fasts will begin at approximately 12–13 hours and gradually increase.
While shorter than summer fasts, the commitment still requires physical and mental discipline as students balance coursework, research, co-op placements, and leadership roles.
For Canadian Higher Education and International Student Services teams, thoughtful practices can make a meaningful difference:
• Offering flexibility for exams or deadlines when feasible
• Being mindful when scheduling evening events or mandatory meals
• Providing space for prayer and reflection
• Coordinating campus or community iftars
• Acknowledging Eid al-Fitr in communications
We extend our respect and support to Muslim students, scholars, faculty, and staff observing Ramadan across Canada.
Ramadan Mubarak. 🌙
