They typically fall into one of two categories:

1 - They’re overspending on benefits for their team and worse losing money on unused amounts. Only to have rates go up the following year

2 - They Don’t have any benefits because they’re a small team and they have thought benefits are just not affordable.

Today means different things to different people.

Why a Needs Analysis is the Cornerstone of Smart Insurance Planning (and Why I Won't Always Tell You to Start Over)

Insurance often feels like a guessing game: How much is enough? Is this policy still relevant?

That's where a comprehensive Needs Analysis comes in. It's not just a sales tactic; it's a vital diagnostic tool that looks at:
- Your current financial obligations (mortgage, debts, education goals).
- Your existing assets (savings, investments, current coverage).
- The gap between what your family would need to maintain their lifestyle and what they currently have in place if the worst were to happen.
It provides clarity, prevents over-insuring (wasting money), and ensures you're not critically under-insured.

My Personal Philosophy:
I often hear the concern: "If I meet with an advisor, they'll just tell me to replace everything I have."
Here's the anomaly: I won't.

If you have a policy that's been in place for years (especially older, guaranteed policies), that low premium is a major asset! Insurance premiums, by and large, do not decrease over time; they only get more expensive as you age.
If your needs analysis shows a gap, my first recommendation is usually to build upon your existing foundation, not dismantle it. We'll leverage that low-cost, long-standing coverage and use new, strategically placed coverage to fill the deficit.
