🌧️🚗 Muskoka Drivers — Stay Safe in This Heavy Rain!

With all the rain we’ve been getting lately across Huntsville, Bracebridge & Muskoka, and many other areas in Ontario, we’re seeing flooded roads, closures, and dangerous driving conditions.

It only takes a moment for things to go wrong — so here are a few important tips to keep you safe 👇

⚠️ Driving Tips in Heavy Rain & Flooding

✔ Slow down — wet roads reduce traction and increase stopping distance
✔ Avoid flooded areas — even shallow water can cause you to lose control
✔ Never drive through standing water — you don’t know what’s underneath
✔ Increase following distance — give yourself extra time to react
✔ Use headlights — even during the day to improve visibility
✔ Watch for hydroplaning — ease off the gas, don’t slam brakes

🚫 If you see a flooded road — turn around, don’t risk it

💡 From an Insurance Perspective (Important!)

👉 Water-related damage from driving into flooded areas may not always be covered — especially if it’s considered avoidable
👉 Comprehensive coverage may help in certain situations (like sudden flooding), but
👉 Driving into obvious floodwater can sometimes impact how a claim is handled

🦌🚗 Muskoka Drivers — Watch for Wildlife!
If you live in Huntsville, Bracebridge, or anywhere in Muskoka, you know this time of year…
wildlife is everywhere. 🦌

Deer, moose, and other animals can appear out of nowhere, especially at dawn and dusk — and collisions happen fast.

⚠️ Here’s how to help avoid hitting wildlife:
✔ Slow down in wooded and rural areas
✔ Watch for wildlife crossing signs (they’re there for a reason!)
✔ Use high beams at night when possible
✔ If you see one animal — expect more behind it
✔ Don’t swerve suddenly — braking firmly is often safer

💡 What happens if you do hit a deer or animal?
Good news — in most cases:
👉 This falls under your comprehensive coverage (not collision)
👉 It usually does NOT affect your driving record the same way as an at-fault accident
👉 You’ll only pay your comprehensive deductible
⚠️ BUT — if you swerve and hit another vehicle or object instead…
👉 That can be considered an at-fault collision claim

❤️ My Advice
Make sure you have comprehensive coverage on your vehicle — especially living here in Muskoka.
It’s one of the most important (and affordable) coverages you can have.
