WEDCo’s Mike Lewey visited JEDI’s Procurement Pathways event last week. Engaging with Indigenous entrepreneurs, industry partners, as well as procurement professionals - and even found his own brother, Thomas!

Close community relationships strengthen our understanding of how Indigenous businesses can successfully engage in public procurement directly with the government or through industry.

Welcome, Sydney Paul!
WEDCo is thrilled to welcome our first full time employee, Sydney Paul, a proud Wolastoqiyik woman from Bilijk First Nation and devoted mother to Sloan Morning Star and Creedence Douglas.
Sydney brings impressive credentials including a BBA from UNB, a Master's Certificate in Project Management, and certification as a Professional Aboriginal Economic Developer (PAED). She was honored with the JEDI EDO Achievement Award in June 2025.
With over a decade of leadership experience as Band Manager and Director of Economic Development for Bilijk and Economic Development Officer for Natoaganeg, Sydney is passionate about empowering Indigenous communities to thrive economically, socially, and culturally. She brings a commitment to accountability and transparency in her work.
When she's not advancing economic reconciliation, you'll find Sydney at CrossFit, on the golf course, or making memories with her family.
Sydney will be our Senior Economic Development Advisor and will support the growth of this new organization. One of her first goals is to implement a thorough and meaningful community engagement process to establish WEDCo's values, principles, and structure in line with our Wolastoqey values. There's an early engagement questionnaire available on www.wedc.net and you can send us any questions or comments at [email protected].
