Visiting a hospital was definitely not part of our travel itinerary—but sometimes the unexpected happens.
On the night of May 4th, which also happened to be my birthday, I woke up in our hotel room in London with severe chest pain and heartburn. It was the first time I had ever experienced something like that, and the pain was so intense that it felt life-threatening. The discomfort lasted for about an hour, and I initially thought it was caused by jet lag and travel exhaustion.
A few hours later, the pain returned—this time even worse.
An ambulance arrived and rushed me to the nearest hospital. A series of tests were performed to determine what was causing the pain. While waiting for the results and the doctor's assessment, I couldn't help but worry. So many questions were running through my mind.
As a tourist, hospital expenses can be overwhelming and could easily drain a family's savings. As a licensed life insurance advisor, I always make sure to secure travel insurance for my family whenever we travel, knowing that unexpected situations can happen anytime. I am grateful to my best friend for contacting the insurance company on my behalf. They checked on me regularly and guided me through the claims process every step of the way.
Thank God, the results showed that the condition was not serious. It turned out to be acid reflux, and I was prescribed medication. After staying overnight for observation, I was discharged the next day. I was also thankful for the compassion shown by the UK healthcare system, as I was not charged for the care I received.
This experience gave me a deeper understanding of how travel insurance works and why it is so important. We often hope for the best during our travels, but being prepared for the unexpected provides invaluable peace of mind.
Thankfully, after that scare, we were able to continue enjoying the rest of our trip worry-free.
Travel insurance isn't just an option—it's protection when you need it most.
