The RRSP contribution deadline for the 2025 tax year is March 2, 2026.
Every year, I see the same situation: many people want to make a smart move, but they are not sure what “smart” looks like for them.
A few simple points worth clarifying before contributing:
• your actual contribution room based on your Notice of Assessment;
• your main goal: tax reduction, retirement savings, or both;
• your time horizon and risk tolerance;
• timing: contribute now, contribute gradually, or combine both.
Contributions made during the first 60 days of the year can generally be deducted on your 2025 or 2026 return. Depending on your situation, that choice can shape your overall plan.
