Did you know paying off your mortgage isn’t the final step?
Even after your mortgage is paid in full, the lender’s charge may still remain on your property’s title. This means your home may still show an old mortgage on record — even though you don’t owe anything!
This process is called discharging a mortgage. It officially removes the lender’s charge from your land title. A lawyer, notary, or even you (with the right documents) can complete this at the land titles office.
✅ Mortgage = your loan
✅ Title = the ownership record of your property
👉 They’re connected, but separate!
If you’ve paid off your mortgage, double-check that it’s also been discharged from the title. It’s a common oversight, but one that’s fixable with the proper paperwork.
