Digital Platforms across Canada have seen a noticeable increase in text message, email, and phone phishing scams. These scams most often come through text messages saying things like, "Suspicious activity has been detected" or "Change your password as your account has been compromised." These messages will redirect you to a suspicious URL that may look like the legitimate website that you are used to seeing. The key to protecting yourself from falling victim to phishing is noticing red flags that are commonly associated with phishing.
ATB Financial will never send you a text or call asking you to provide personal information, card information, or online login details. When you are logging into your ATB account, we will only require your username, password, and your 2 Factor Authentication one time passcode. Occasionally, you will be sent an email with a link that will allow you to reset a password or enroll in online banking, but that will only happen in response to something you have requested or agreed to.
We encourage everyone to learn how to protect yourself by paying close attention to links in emails and text messages and not clicking on anything that could compromise your account. Always visit ATB.com using our published URLs, and never share Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) codes with anyone using text or on the phone.
If you get a text or email that seems off, don't reply, click on any links or unsubscribe to the emails, even if they threaten to close your account or limit your access. If a message doesn't look right, call us at 1-800-332-8383, forward the message to [email protected], and delete the message.
