Very well explained!

The Bank of Canada made an announcement today.
And once again… my feed is already full of people yelling
“THE RATE IS 2.25%!!”
Yes.
It is.
AND ALSO - that rate has absolutely NOTHING to do with what you can borrow at.
That 2.25% is the OVERNIGHT LENDING RATE.
That is the rate banks lend to each other.
It is NOT your mortgage rate.
It is NOT your fixed rate (those are hovering around 4%).
It is NOT your prime rate (still 4.45% today).
It is NOT any rate that regular humans can access.
So unless you’re a major financial institution swapping cash at 3 a.m., this is NOT your rate.
Posting the overnight rate without explaining it is just…noise.
And worse - it misleads people into thinking mortgage rates suddenly dropped.
They didn’t.
What actually matters- the truth and THIS blunt explanation.
Everything else?
Fu***ng clickbait IMO.
So yes - the Bank held the overnight rate.
No - it does NOT mean cheaper mortgages.
And no - homeowners shouldn’t be freaking out or celebrating over it.
Remember the house hippo- question who is posting the information and what they gain from you believing that rates are at 2.25%.
