Circle Connections for Reconciliation

Circle Connections for Reconciliation Bringing Indigenous and non-Indigenous people together in peace and friendship. Oki, Âba wathtech, Danit’ada, Tânsi, Taanishi, Hello!

Circle Connections for Reconciliation Society is a grass-roots community driven initiative organized by a team of dedicated volunteers. We bring Indigenous and non-Indigenous people together in peace and friendship, to build relationships, learn the truth, increase awareness and work towards genuine reconciliation in our area. We are honoured to work with Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Leaders from

across Treaty 7 Territory and the Métis Nation of Alberta. We come together to engage in meaningful conversations, to work together organizing events and activities as well as initiating changes that ensure a safe, supportive and inclusive community. We welcome all people to join us in this journey. MISSION

Circle Connections for Reconciliation Society creates space for learning, to empower anyone and everyone on the road to truth and reconciliation, one connection at a time. VISION

Circle Connections for Reconciliation Society contributes to the progress of Truth and Reconciliation in peace, respect and friendship. VALUES

In the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation we commit to connecting, empowering, learning, listening, reciprocating, respecting and sharing. GUIDING PRINCIPLE

We uphold the values of the Seven Sacred Teachings: love, trust, courage, respect, wisdom, honesty, and humility. LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Circle Connections for Reconciliation Society acknowledges that we reside on Treaty 7 Territory and the Métis Homeland. We offer our deepest gratitude and respect to all who have welcomed us on their ancestral lands including the Blackfoot Confederacy of Siksika, Piikani and Kainai First Nations, the Tsuut’ina First Nation, the Stoney Nakoda people of Chiniki, Bearspaw and Goodstoney First Nations, and the Métis Nation of Alberta. As a group, we are committed to learning the truth and the obligations of living on these lands. We are committed to gathering together in peace and friendship as Treaties intended and moving forward together with actions that bring about genuine reconciliation to the land and to all who live here. Thank you to everyone who came to our AGM yesterday. It was great to see members of Council, City of Airdrie staff and so many community members.

Elder George Pambrun was unable to join us and wish him a speedy recovery and good health. Thank you to Jenni who sang and drummed for us.

This AGM marks the beginning of a new role within the Circle. Under the guidance of Elder Lance Scout, two members have transitioned from board members to Advisors.

To those who have stepped down from the board, thank you for your contributions. We wish you well in all your future endeavors.

We look forward to welcoming new board members in the near future.

Board members’ bios can be found on our website at https://www.circleconnectionsforreconciliation.com/board-members

Today our hearts are full after a beautiful day yesterday of teaching, learning, connection, and raising awareness for MMIWG2S—community with community.

The MMIWG2S Awareness Event in Airdrie was made possible through the funding, sponsorship and collaboration of The City of Airdrie, Airdrie Public Library and Circle Connections for Reconciliation. It meant a great deal to see Airdrie’s Mayor and four Councilors show up not only in presence, but throughout the planning and the full event! This is what the work of reconciliation looks like in action.

Deep gratitude to the Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Cultural Support, community members, friends, family, and all who shared their time, teachings, and presence—and to all who came out to stand together in a good way.

Together we created red dress felt awareness pins to gift to community members at the May 5th and 8th MMIWG2S events.

Art calls us into action, inviting us into spaces that can be unseen and uncomfortable—reminding us that when we know better, we do better. The public art display “Shape of Change” is on free display at Inspire for the next couple of weeks for all whom have not checked it out.

There are many more events in the Calgary area you can support this coming week.

Finally, thanks to our food and beverage sponsors Airdrie Safeway Canada and Ground Press Coffee and Books.
