On 8 May, Mayfair was proud to attend a high‑impact industry summit organized by Mivani Security under the theme “United Against Threats: Combating Copper & Lithium Battery Theft.” Our CEO, Ms. Opelo Lefhoko, delivered a compelling keynote address on the growing risks facing Botswana’s critical infrastructure.
In her remarks, she emphasized that copper theft, fuel theft, and lithium battery theft are not isolated criminal act. They are direct threats to national productivity, connectivity, public safety, and economic confidence. These crimes disrupt telecommunications networks, destabilize energy infrastructure, interrupt business operations, and increase costs across vital sectors of the economy.
Ms. Lefhoko highlighted that the theft of a single battery from a telecom tower can result in a clinic losing communication, a community being cut off, businesses losing operational capacity, or emergency services facing dangerous delays.
She concluded with a powerful call to action: critical infrastructure is the nervous system of a modern nation. Protecting it requires strong partnerships, smarter protection systems, collective responsibility and robust insurance solutions to help organizations manage risk, recover faster, and remain resilient against evolving threats.
