Meet our Debate Facilitator Kutlo Jacob Kusane

Kutlo Jacob Kusane is a final year Economics student at the University of Botswana with a keen interest in economic policy, financial markets, private sector development and inclusive economic growth.

Former intern, he has gained practical experience through his work with the Ministry of Finance, where he was exposed to economic research, fiscal policy, macroeconomic analysis and Botswana’s broader economic policy environment. He is also actively involved in youth and professional initiatives, including the University of Botswana Economics Society, where he contributes to student engagement, communication and economic discourse.

Beyond economics, Kutlo is experienced in event facilitation, programme coordination and public engagement. He brings an analytical yet accessible approach to discussions, with a particular interest in creating spaces where young people, entrepreneurs and professionals can engage meaningfully on issues affecting Botswana’s economy.

For this seminar, Kutlo will serve as the facilitator, guiding the discussion, challenging perspectives and keeping the conversation focused on the realities, opportunities and constraints surrounding MSME development and financing in Botswana.

LUSANDA MAGWAPE TO BRING SOCIAL IMPACT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP EXPERTISE TO FINANCE SEMINAR

GABORONE — Award-winning social impact leader and entrepreneur Lusanda Magwape is set to bring more than a decade of experience in law, entrepreneurship, education and digital transformation to the upcoming Finance Seminar in Gaborone.

Magwape, who is the keynote speaker, is a qualified attorney and the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dream Factory Foundation, an organisation she established in 2011 to advance education, entrepreneurship and economic opportunities for young people across Africa.

Her multidisciplinary career has seen her work across legal advisory, project management, entrepreneurship and digital transformation, while also supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship and inclusive economic participation.

Magwape has served as a consultant, facilitator and coach for organisations including the African Union, AfriLabs, IJHub, UpSkill Digital and Google.

Her work is particularly focused on creating opportunities for young people through entrepreneurship, digital innovation and economic participation — areas that align closely with the objectives of the upcoming seminar on sustainable income streams.

She holds a Master’s degree in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town and is a Cordes Fellow, an AU-EU Cooperation Hub Youth Expert alumna and a Meta Community Leader Fellow. She was also part of the inaugural cohort of the Obama Africa Leadership Programme.

Through Dream Factory Foundation and her wider professional work, Magwape has continued to promote entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, digital transformation and opportunities for young people across Africa.

Her combination of legal knowledge, strategic leadership and entrepreneurial experience is expected to bring a broader perspective to discussions around income diversification and building sustainable financial futures.

The Finance Seminar, themed “Income Diversity in this Economy: Building Sustainable Income Streams,” will take place on October 10, 2026, at Stanbic Accelerate, Fairgrounds, Gaborone, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Investment consultant and business advisor Thato I. Mora will participate as the guest speaker, while Patsimo Mokopane will host the event.

The programme will feature presentations, networking opportunities and a “Big Debate” focused on perspectives around sustainable income generation in the current economy.

Registration is P400 for the 2026 cohort, P300 for the 2025 cohort and P200 for tertiary students.

Meet our Remarkable Poet

A young Botswana-born creative whose words have travelled far beyond the page.

A spoken word poet, author, corporate MC, Founder of AmSmart Book Club, and recently appointed Botswana Liaison for GEM Institute (Lesotho), his/her work continues to create spaces for young people to discover the power of storytelling, literature and self-expression.

Through AmSmart Book Club, eight young people have been mentored and supported on their journey to becoming published authors through Brighter in the Dark.

As an accomplished author, her literary journey has earned recognition through several award-winning books:
