MLM stands for Multi-Level Marketing, which is a marketing strategy in which a company recruits distributors or independent representatives to sell its products or services directly to consumers. These distributors earn commission not only on their own sales but also on the sales of the distributors they recruit, and the distributors recruited by those distributors, and so on, forming a "downline" or "team."
The structure of MLM companies typically involves a hierarchy of levels, where each distributor has the opportunity to advance to higher levels by meeting certain performance targets, such as sales volume or recruitment of new distributors.
MLM companies have been the subject of controversy and criticism, as some people view them as pyramid schemes that primarily benefit those at the top of the hierarchy rather than the distributors at the bottom. However, not all MLM companies are pyramid schemes, and many operate legally and ethically. It's important for individuals to do their research and understand the risks and rewards before getting involved with any MLM company.
