The reality is, it's often more nuanced than that.

How your income is structured can be just as important as how much you earn.

Whether you operate as a sole trader, company, partnership or trust, lenders may assess business income differently depending on your business structure and their individual lending policies.

That's why two business owners earning similar incomes can sometimes have very different borrowing outcomes.

It isn't always about the numbers alone.

It's about understanding:

• which lender is assessing the application
